حدثنا أبو العباس محمد بن يعقوب، حدثنا أحمد بن عبد الجبار، حدثنا يونس بن بُكير، عن محمد بن إسحاق، عن الزُّهْري، عن الشَّعْبي، قال: أرَّخَ بنو إسحاق من مَبعَثِ موسى إلى مُلك سليمان بن داود، قال: ووَرِثَ سليمانُ داودَ، قال: أحدَثَ إليه النبوةَ وسأله أن يَهَبَ له مُلكًا لا ينبغي لأحدٍ من بعدِه، فسَخَّر له الجنَّ والإنسَ والطيرَ والريح (2).

It is narrated from Imam al-Sha'bi; he said: The Banu Ishaq compiled a chronology from the sending of Musa (peace be upon him) until the kingdom of Sulayman bin Dawud (peace be upon them both). He said: "And Sulayman (peace be upon him) became the heir of Dawud (peace be upon him)." He further said: "Allah sent prophethood to him, and he asked Allah for a kingdom that would befit no one after him, so Allah made the jinn, humans, birds and the wind subservient to him."

(2) رجاله لا بأس بهم. الشَّعْبي: هو عامر بن شَراحيل، والزُّهْري: هو محمد بن مسلم بن عُبيد الله.
Grading: Its narrators are acceptable (la ba'sa bihim, i.e. trustworthy or truthful).
Technical note / Defect ('illah): Al-Sha'bi is 'Amir bin Sharahil, and al-Zuhri is Muhammad bin Muslim bin 'Ubaydullah (Ibn Shihab al-Zuhri).
وأخرج منه ذكر تأريخ بني إسحاق: ابن عساكر في "تاريخ دمشق" 1/ 34 من طريق علي بن مجاهد الرازي، عن محمد بن إسحاق، عن الزُّهْري، وعن محمد بن صالح، عن الشَّعْبي، قالا؛ فذكره، فجعله من رواية ابن إسحاق عن الزُّهْري ومن رواية ابن إسحاق عن محمد بن صالح عن الشَّعْبي أنهما قالا!! وعلي بن مجاهد دون يونس بن بكير بكثير، وتركه بعضهم.
Reference / Source: The part of it mentioning the history of the Banu Ishaq was recorded by Ibn 'Asakir in "Tarikh Dimashq" 1/34 via 'Ali bin Mujahid al-Razi, from Muhammad bin Ishaq, from al-Zuhri; and from Muhammad bin Salih, from al-Sha'bi.
Technical note / Defect ('illah): The narrator made it a narration of Ibn Ishaq from al-Zuhri and of Ibn Ishaq from Muhammad bin Salih from al-Sha'bi, stating that both of them said it. Note that 'Ali bin Mujahid is far below Yunus bin Bukayr in standing, and some scholars abandoned him.
وأخرج منه بيان وراثة سليمان لداود وما ملَّكه الله إياه: ابن أبي حاتم في "تفسيره" 9/ 2856 من طريق سلمة بن الفضل، عن محمد بن إسحاق، عن بعض أهل العلم، عن وهب بن مُنبِّه قوله.
Reference / Source: The part of this narration describing Sulayman's (peace be upon him) inheritance from Dawud (peace be upon him) and the kingdom Allah granted him was recorded by Ibn Abi Hatim in his "Tafsir" 9/2856 via Salamah bin al-Fadl, from Muhammad bin Ishaq, from some people of knowledge, as a saying of Wahb bin Munabbih.
