أخبرني أبو بكر بن بالَوَيهِ، حدثنا محمد بن شاذان، حدثنا سعيد بن سليمان، حدثنا أبو حمزة العَطّار، قال: سمعتُ الحسنَ وسُئل عن قول الله ﷿: ﴿فَلَوْلَا أَنَّهُ كَانَ مِنَ الْمُسَبِّحِينَ﴾ [الصافات: 143]، قال: كان يُكثِر الصلاةَ في الرَّخاء (1).

It is narrated from Hasan al-Basri (may Allah have mercy on him) that he was asked about the saying of Allah Almighty: "And had he not been of those who glorify (Allah)" [Surah al-Saffat: 143], and he said: "What it means is that he used to pray abundantly in times of ease."

(1) إسناده حسن من أجل أبي حمزة العطار وهو إسحاق بن الربيع، والحسن: وهو البصري. وأخرجه البيهقي في "شُعب الإيمان" (1104) عن أبي عبد الله الحاكم، بهذا الإسناد.
Grading: Its chain is hasan because of Abu Hamzah al-'Attar (Ishaq bin al-Rabi'). (Narrator): al-Hasan is al-Basri.
Reference / Source: It was recorded by al-Bayhaqi in "Shu'ab al-Iman" (1104) from Abu Abd Allah al-Hakim, with this chain.
وأخرجه أبو القاسم البغوي في "نسخة طالوت بن عباد" (81) عن طالوت، عن أبي حمزة العطار، به.
Reference / Source: It was recorded by Abu al-Qasim al-Baghawi in "Nuskhat Talut bin 'Abbad" (81) from Talut, from Abu Hamzah al-'Attar, with it.
وأخرج الطبري في "تفسيره" 23/ 100 من طريق عمران القطّان، قال: سمعت الحسن يقول في قوله: ﴿فَلَوْلَا أَنَّهُ كَانَ مِنَ الْمُسَبِّحِينَ﴾ قال: فوالله ما كانت إلّا صلاةً أحدثَها في بطن الحوت. قال عمران: فذكرتُ ذلك لقتادة، فأنكر ذلك، وقال: كان والله يكثر الصلاة في الرَّخاء. ورجاله لا بأس بهم.
Reference / Source: Al-Tabari recorded in his "Tafsir" 23/ 100 via 'Imran al-Qattan, who said: I heard al-Hasan (al-Basri) say about the saying of Allah: ﴿Had he not been one of those who glorify (Allah)﴾: "By Allah, it was nothing but a prayer that he began in the belly of the whale." 'Imran said: I mentioned that to Qatadah, and he rejected it and said: "By Allah, he used to pray much in times of ease."
Grading: Its narrators are acceptable (la ba'sa bihim).
