أخبرني أبو نصر محمد بن أحمد بن عمر الخَفَّاف، حدثنا أحمد بن سلمة، حدثنا محمد بن بشار، حدثنا أبو داود، حدثنا همام، عن قتادة، عن عكرمة، عن ابن عبّاس، قال: كان بين نُوح وآدمَ عشرة قرون، كلهم على شريعة من الحَقِّ، فاختلَفُوا، فبعث الله النبيين مُبشِّرين ومُنذِرين. قال: وكذلك في قراءة عبد الله: (كان الناسُ أُمّةً واحِدةً فاختَلَفُوا) (4).
هذا حديث صحيح على شرط البخاري، ولم يخرجاه.

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that he said: "Between Nuh and Adam (peace be upon them both) there were ten centuries, all of them upon a law of truth. Then they differed, so Allah Almighty sent Prophets as bearers of glad tidings and as warners." Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) said: "And it is likewise in the recitation of Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him): 'Mankind was one community, then they differed.'"
This hadith is sahih (authentic) on the condition of Imam Bukhari, but the two Shaykhs did not record it.

(4) إسناده صحيح. همام: هو ابن يحيى العَوْذي، وأبو داود: هو سليمان بن داود الطيالسي.
Grading: Its chain is "sahih". Hammam is "Ibn Yahya al-'Awdhi", and Abu Dawud is "Sulayman bin Dawud al-Tayalisi".
وأخرجه الطبري في "تفسيره" 2/ 334، وفي "تاريخه" 1/ 178 عن محمد بن بشار، بهذا الإسناد. وأخرجه ابن أبي حاتم في "التفسير" 8/ 2696 من طريق عبد الله بن عمران الأصبهاني، عن أبي داود الطيالسي، به.
Reference / Source: Al-Tabari narrated it in his "Tafsir" (2/334) and "Tarikh" (1/178) from Muhammad bin Bashshar, with this same chain. Ibn Abi Hatim narrated it in his "Tafsir" (8/2696) via 'Abdullah bin 'Imran al-Asbahani, from Abu Dawud al-Tayalisi, likewise.
وقد تقدَّم برقم (3695) من طريق عبد الصمد بن عبد الوارث عن همام.
Reference / Source: It has already appeared at number (3695) via 'Abd al-Samad bin 'Abd al-Warith, from Hammam.
وعبد الله المذكور: هو ابن مسعود، وقراءته هذه لم يقرأ بها أحد من أصحاب القراءات الصحيحة.
Note / Clarification: The 'Abdullah mentioned is "Ibn Mas'ud", and this reading of his was not read by any of the authorities of the sound (canonical) readings.
