Mustadrak al-Hakim — Hadith 4052

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) that he mentioned the saying of Allah Almighty: "Indeed, We sent Nuh to his people" [Surah Nuh: 1]. Then he mentioned that Nuh (peace be upon him) was taking a bath, and he found his son looking at him, so he said: "You are looking at me while I am bathing? May Allah change your colour." So he became black, and he is the father of the Abyssinians (the black-skinned peoples).
The chain of this hadith is sahih (authentic), but the two Shaykhs did not record it.

Hadith Grading
Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Note / Clarification: Perhaps it means: "blackened your colour"; and from this, land with black stones is called "harrah".

Grading: Its chain is "da'if" (weak) because of the weakness of Ibn Abi Labibah, and al-Dhahabi declared it defective for this reason in his "Talkhis". Ibn Ma'in said: "His hadith is worth nothing." We say: He is known for irsal (narrating with a missing link), and it is not thought that he met his grandfather.
