(Imam al-Hakim says that) I heard Abu Ali al-Hafiz say: The mention of Sayyiduna Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) in its chain is an error. Then he narrated it to us in mursal form through the chain of Muhammad bin Ishaq al-Thaqafi from Amr bin Dinar: "The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was in the Cave of Hira," and then mentioned the hadith in the same way. All the narrators of the first, connected hadith are trustworthy, and I have built this book upon the principle that an addition from a trustworthy narrator is accepted. As for the prostration in "Read in the name of your Lord", Imam Muslim recorded it through the chain of Abu al-Tahir, from al-A'raj, from Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him).

Grading: Its narrators are trustworthy, and it is mursal. Corroborating chains and supporting reports: Ibn Zanjawayh was corroborated in narrating it as mursal by al-Hasan bin Abi al-Rabi' in his narration of "Tafsir Abd al-Razzaq"; there (2/384) it is from Ma'mar, who said: 'Amr bin Dinar and al-Zuhri informed me that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was at Hira', and he mentioned it. Reference / Source: Something similar has been narrated from Ubayd bin 'Umayr al-Laythi as mursal, except that he did not mention Hira', and he said in it: "Jibril came to me while I was asleep …" Ibn Ishaq narrated it from Wahb bin Kaysan from him, and it is in Ibn Hisham's "al-Sirah" (1/236) and al-Tabari's "Tarikh" (2/300-301). Note / Clarification: "Al-namat": a kind of carpet. "Al-dibaj": what is woven from the finest silk.
Reference / Source: It is in "Sahih Muslim" (578/109), but from Harmalah bin Yahya al-Tujibi from Abdullah bin Wahb, not from Abu al-Tahir Ahmad bin 'Amr bin Abi al-Sarh.
