Mustadrak al-Hakim — Hadith 3962

حدثني أبو علي الحسين بن علي الحافظ، أخبرنا عبد الله بن محمد البَغَوي، حدثني جدِّي أحمد بن مَنِيع، حدَّثنا أبو يوسف القاضي، حدَّثنا مُطرِّف بن طَريف، عن جعفر بن أبي المغيرة، عن سعيد بن جُبير، عن ابن عبَّاس في قوله ﷿: ﴿يَخْرُجُ مِنْ بَيْنِ الصُّلْبِ وَالتَّرَائِبِ﴾ قال: الصُّلب: هو الصُّلب، والتَّرائب: أربعةُ أضلاعٍ من كل جانبٍ من أسفلِ الأضلاع (1).
هذا حديث صحيح الإسناد، ولم يُخرجاه.

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) concerning the saying of Allah Almighty "It emerges from between the backbone and the ribs" [Surah al-Tariq: 7], that he said: "Al-sulb" means the backbone, and "al-tara'ib" means the four ribs on each side at the lowest part of the ribs.
This hadith has a sahih (authentic) chain of narration, but the two Shaykhs (Bukhari and Muslim) did not record it.
