(2). It is narrated from Mansur bin Ammar (may Allah have mercy on him) that he said: I once performed Hajj and stayed in one of the lanes of Kufah. I went out on a dark night, and in the middle of the night I heard the voice of someone crying out, calling aloud: "O my God, by Your might and Your majesty, I did not intend opposition to You by disobeying You. When I disobeyed You, I was not at that time ignorant of Your station; rather, a sin presented itself, my wretchedness helped me towards it, and Your veil let down over me deceived me. I disobeyed You and opposed You out of my ignorance. So now who will rescue me from Your punishment? And if You cut Your rope off from me, whose rope shall I hold on to? Alas for my youth! Alas for my youth!" Mansur says: When he had finished his words, I recited this verse of the Book of Allah: "A Fire whose fuel is people and stones, over which are angels, stern and severe" [Surah al-Tahrim: 6]. I heard a violent movement, and after that I heard no sound, so I went on my way. The next day I passed back along the same way and saw a bier laid down, and an old woman was there. I asked her about the deceased, and she did not recognise me. She said: "A man passed by here, may Allah give him his due (for his deeds); last night he passed by my son while my son was standing in prayer. He recited a verse of the Book of Allah, and when my son heard that verse, his gall bladder burst and he died on the spot."

Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Technical note / Defect ('illah): With the author (al-Hakim), and with al-Bayhaqi from him ("Shu'ab al-Iman" 909), the name appears as "Ahmad bin Mansur", and al-Hafiz Ibn Hajar in "Ithaf al-Maharah" (6/114) counted him as "Ahmad bin Mansur al-Ramadi", who is thiqah and one of the shaykhs of Abu al-Abbas (al-Sarraj). However, in the manuscripts of al-Mustadrak he appears with the attribution "al-Ansari", whereas al-Ramadi is not an Ansari. And in the source books that recorded it via Abu al-Abbas al-Thaqafi (al-Sarraj), it is "Ahmad bin Musa al-Ansari", and we did not find any narrator named "Ahmad bin Musa al-Ansari" in this generation, unless he is "Ahmad bin Musa bin Ishaq Abu Abd Allah al-Ansari", who is thiqah; al-Khatib al-Baghdadi declared him trustworthy in his Tarikh (6/352). But he is one of the contemporaries (aqran) of Abu al-Abbas al-Sarraj; if it is he, then the chain between him and Mansur bin Ammar is "munqati'". And Allah knows best.
Note / Clarification: Our manuscripts have "idh 'asaytuka wa-ana bi-dhalika jahil" (when I disobeyed You, I was ignorant of that), in the affirmative, whereas what we have established is from manuscript (B) (in the negative); it is the same in the Mahmudiyyah manuscript (according to the Mayman edition), and this is correct, agreeing with the source books, in which the words are: "wa-ma ana bi-nakalika jahil" (and I was not unaware of Your punishment).
Note / Clarification: It is so in the printed edition, and this agrees with the source books. Our manuscripts have "'adlaka", but the first (that of the printed edition) is more fitting.
Grading: All its narrators up to Mansur bin Ammar are thiqah. Mansur bin Ammar was an eloquent and righteous preacher.
