أخبرنا أبو العبَّاس المحبُوبي، حدثنا أحمد بن سيّار، حدثنا محمد بن كَثير، حدثنا سفيان، عن أبي إسحاق، عن هُبيرة بن يَرِيم (2)، عن عبد الله بن مسعود في قوله ﷿: ﴿بَطَائِنُهَا مِنْ إِسْتَبْرَقٍ﴾ [الرحمن: 54] قال: أُخبِرتُم بالبطائن، فكيف بالظَّهائر (3). صحيح على شرط الشيخين ولم يُخرجاه.

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) concerning the saying of Allah, the Mighty and Majestic: "whose linings are of thick brocade" [Surah al-Rahman: 54], that he said: "You have been told about their linings (the inner layers); so just think what the state of their outer sides (the visible silk) will be!"
This hadith is sahih (authentic) on the condition of the two Shaykhs (Bukhari and Muslim), but they did not record it.

(2) تحرَّف في نسخنا الخطية إلى مريم، بميم في أوله.
Note / Clarification: In our manuscripts this name is corrupted to "Maryam" (with a mim at its beginning).
(3) إسناده حسن من أجل هبيرة بن يريم. سفيان: هو الثوري وأبو إسحاق: هو عمرو بن عبد الله السَّبيعي.
Grading: Its chain is "hasan" on account of Hubayrah bin Yarim. Sufyan is al-Thawri and Abu Ishaq is 'Amr bin 'Abd Allah al-Sabi'i.
وأخرجه البيهقي في "البعث والنشور" (309) عن أبي عبد الله الحاكم بهذا الإسناد.
Reference / Source: Al-Bayhaqi narrated it in "al-Ba'th wa al-Nushur" (309) by way of Abu 'Abd Allah al-Hakim with this same chain.
وأخرجه ابن أبي الدنيا في "صفة الجنة" (158)، والطبري في "تفسيره" 27/ 149 من طريق محمد ابن يوسف الفريابي، والطبري أيضًا من طريق يحيى بن اليمان، كلاهما عن سفيان الثوري، به - إلّا أنَّ ابن اليمان وقفه على هبيرة من قوله، والراوي عنه هذه الرواية عند الطبري أو هشام محمد بن يزيد الرفاعي، وفيه ضعف.
Reference / Source: Ibn Abi al-Dunya in "Sifat al-Jannah" (158) and al-Tabari in his "Tafsir" (27/ 149) narrated it by way of Muhammad bin Yusuf al-Firyabi, and al-Tabari also by way of Yahya bin al-Yaman, both of them from Sufyan al-Thawri.
Technical note / Defect ('illah): However, Ibn al-Yaman made it mawquf on Hubayrah (as his own saying), and the one who takes this narration from Ibn al-Yaman in al-Tabari is Abu Hisham Muhammad bin Yazid al-Rifa'i, who has weakness.
