It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) concerning this saying of Allah, the Mighty and Majestic, "We will join with them their offspring, and We will not deprive them" [Surah al-Tur: 21], that he said: "Indeed, Allah Almighty will raise the offspring of the believer with him to his rank in Paradise, even if they (the offspring) are below him in deeds." Then he recited: "And those who believed and whose offspring followed them in faith, We will join with them their offspring, and We will not deprive them (of their reward) in anything" [Surah al-Tur: 21]. He said that what is meant by "and We will not deprive them" is: "And We did not diminish anything of their deeds."

Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Note / Clarification: Of the seven readers, Nafi', Ibn Amir and Abu Amr read "dhurriyyatihim" in the plural. Likewise Ibn Amir and Abu Amr also read "wa-ttaba'athum dhurriyyatuhum" in the plural, but Abu Amr alone read "wa-atba'nahum" (and We made them follow) and read "dhurriyyatihim" with nasb (the accusative). Grading: This report is "sahih"; its narrators are thiqah and the chain is apparently connected, but it has been narrated from Sufyan through several routes in which a narrator named "Sama'ah" is inserted between him and Amr bin Murrah. Technical note / Defect ('illah): No one other than al-Thawri narrated from Sama'ah; Ibn Hibban mentioned him in "al-Thiqat", and Abu Hatim considered his hadith sound. Sufyan al-Thawri is also known for narrating from Amr bin Murrah and for having heard from him. In any case, Shu'bah also narrated it from Amr bin Murrah (al-Tahawi: Mushkil al-Athar 3/ 105). 2/ 247. Reference / Source: Al-Bayhaqi recorded it in "al-Sunan" (10/ 268) and "al-Qada' wa al-Qadar" (636) through Abu Abd Allah al-Hakim. It is also in "Tafsir Abd al-Razzaq" (2/ 247). Reference / Source: Al-Tabari, al-Tahawi and al-Bayhaqi recorded it via Muhammad bin Bishr and al-Firyabi from Sufyan. Some narrators from Muhammad bin Bishr made it marfu', but its attribution to the Prophet is not sahih. Reference / Source: Al-Bazzar (2260), al-Tahawi and Abu Nu'aym recorded it via Qays bin al-Rabi', from Amr bin Murrah. Some narrators from Qays also made it marfu', which is not sahih, and there is weakness in Qays bin al-Rabi'. Reference / Source: Something of similar meaning is narrated by al-Tabarani in "al-Saghir" (640) and "al-Kabir" (12248) via Salim al-Aftas, from Sa'id bin Jubayr, from Ibn Abbas, with doubt over whether it is marfu'. Grading: Its chain is "talif"; it contains Muhammad bin Abd al-Rahman bin Ghazwan, who is accused of fabrication.
