أخبرنا أبو الحسن علي بن محمد بن عُقْبة، حَدَّثَنَا الحسن بن علي بن عفَّان، حَدَّثَنَا محمد بن عُبيد الطَّنافِسي، حَدَّثَنَا بسّام بن عبد الرحمن الصَّيرَفي، حَدَّثَنَا أبو الطُّفيل قال: رأيتُ أميرَ المؤمنين عليَّ بن أبي طالب قام على المِنبَر فقال: سَلُوني قبل أن لا تَسألوني، ولن تَسألوا بعدي مِثْلي، قال: فقام ابن الكَوَّاء فقال: يا أميرَ المؤمنين، ما الذارياتُ ذَرْوًا، قال: الرِّياح، قال: فما الحاملاتُ وِقْرًا، قال: السَّحاب، قال: فما الجارياتُ يُسْرًا، قال: السُّفن، قال: فما المقسِّماتُ أَمرًا، قال: الملائكة، قال: فمَن ﴿الَّذِينَ بَدَّلُوا نِعْمَتَ اللَّهِ كُفَرًا وَأَحَلُّوا قَوْمَهُمْ دَارَ الْبَوَارِ﴾ [إبراهيم: 28] قال: منافقُو (1) قريشٍ (2).
هذا حديث صحيح الإسناد، ولم يُخرجاه.

Abu al-Tufayl (may Allah have mercy on him) relates: I saw the Commander of the Believers, Sayyiduna Ali bin Abi Talib (may Allah be pleased with him), standing on the pulpit, and he said: "Ask me (whatever you wish to ask) before you are unable to ask me, for after me you will not find anyone like me (in knowledge) to address you." So Ibn al-Kawwa' stood up and said: "O Commander of the Believers, what is meant by 'those scattering (dust) dispersing'?" He said: "The winds." He asked: "What are 'those carrying a load'?" He said: "The clouds." He asked: "What is meant by 'those sailing with ease'?" He said: "The ships." He asked: "Who are 'those apportioning by command'?" He said: "The angels." He asked: "Who are 'those who exchanged the favour of Allah for disbelief and settled their people in the home of ruin' [Surah Ibrahim: 28]?" He said: "They are the hypocrites of Quraysh."

(1) في النسخ الخطية: منافقي، والمثبت من المطبوع وهو الجادّة.
Note / Clarification: The manuscripts read "munafiqi", and the adopted text is from the printed edition, which is the standard form.
(2) خبر صحيح، وهذا إسناد قوي من أجل بسام بن عبد الرحمن.
Grading: This report is "sahih", and this chain is "strong" because of Bassam bin Abd al-Rahman.
وأخرجه بأطول ممّا هنا عبد الرزاق في "تفسيره" 2/ 241 - 242 عن معمر، عن وهب بن عبد الله - وهو ابن أبي دُبيّ الهُنائي - عن أبي الطفيل، به. وإسناده صحيح.
Reference / Source: Abd al-Razzaq recorded it in his "Tafsir" (2/ 241-242), at greater length than here, from Ma'mar, from Wahb bin Abd Allah (Ibn Abi Dubayy al-Huna'i), from Abu al-Tufayl.
Grading: Its chain is "sahih".
