Mustadrak al-Hakim — Hadith 3588

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) concerning this saying of Allah Almighty: "He arranges the affair from the heaven to the earth; then it ascends to Him in a Day whose measure is a thousand years of what you count" [Surah al-Sajdah: 5], that he said: "This is from among the six days in which Allah Almighty created the heavens and the earth; then the command ascends to Him."
This hadith has a sahih (authentic) chain of narration, but the two Shaykhs (Bukhari and Muslim) did not record it.

Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Note / Clarification: In the manuscripts this addition comes after it: "in a Day whose measure is a thousand years of what you count; he said: it is one of the six days (of creation)". This is a repetition of no benefit, and it does not appear in "Talkhis al-Mustadrak".
Grading: This report is "da'if" because of "idtirab" (inconsistency).
Technical note / Defect ('illah): "Simak bin Harb" was inconsistent in it. Thus it was narrated from Isra'il in this way by Ubayd Allah bin Musa with the author (al-Hakim), by Waki' in al-Tabari (21/ 91), and by al-Husayn bin Hafs in Ibn Marduyah's Tafsir (and al-Diya''s al-Mukhtarah 12/ 114). But contradicting them, Abd al-Rahman bin Mahdi, narrating from Isra'il (in Ibn Abi Hatim, as cited in Tafsir Ibn Kathir 5/ 437), mentioned "verse 47 of Surat al-Hajj" in place of the verse of Surat al-Sajdah.
Corroborating chains and supporting reports: And Anbasah bin Sa'id also narrated it from Simak in al-Tabari (21/ 91), in the same way as Isra'il narrated it.
Technical note / Defect ('illah): Whereas Sufyan al-Thawri and Shu'bah narrated from Simak, from Ikrimah, concerning the verse ﴿أَلْفَ سَنَةٍ مِمَّا تَعُدُّونَ﴾ (a thousand years of what you count), that Ikrimah said: "It is of the days of this world." It was recorded by al-Tabari (21/ 91). This is another discrepancy.
Technical note / Defect ('illah): And contradicting Simak (also in al-Tabari), Abu al-Ahwas narrated via Abu al-Harith from Ikrimah from Ibn Abbas that he said concerning the verse ﴿ثُمَّ يَعْرُجُ إِلَيْهِ فِي يَوْمٍ﴾ (then it ascends to Him in a Day): "It is of these days of yours (of this world)." Thus he placed the ascent in the days of this world, not in the six days of creation, as in the narration of Simak.
Corroborating chains and supporting reports: And similar to this narration of Abu al-Harith, Ali bin Abi Talhah also narrated it from Ibn Abbas in al-Tabari.
