It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) concerning this saying of Allah Almighty: "Have those who disbelieved not seen that the heavens and the earth were a closed-up mass, and We split them apart?" [Surah al-Anbiya: 30]; he said: (At the time of the creation of the universe) the heaven was split open with rain and the earth was split open with vegetation (by making it grow).
This hadith has a sahih (authentic) chain of narration, but the two Shaykhs (Bukhari and Muslim) did not record it.

Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Grading: (1) Its chain is "very weak" (da'if jiddan) because of Talhah bin 'Amr al-Hadrami; al-Dhahabi called it "wahin" (feeble). Sufyan is al-Thawri, and 'Ata' is Ibn Abi Rabah. Reference / Source: Al-Bayhaqi recorded it in "al-Asma' wa al-Sifat" (39) from al-Hakim, with this chain. Reference / Source: Ibn Abi Hatim (as in "Tafsir Ibn Kathir": 5/ 332) and Abu Nu'aym in "al-Hilyah" (1/ 320) recorded something similar via Hamzah bin Abi Muhammad, from 'Abdullah bin Dinar, from Ibn 'Abbas. Grading: Hamzah bin Abi Muhammad is "da'if", and Abu Hatim said: "munkar al-hadith" (his hadith are denounced).
