It is narrated from Abu Sadiq; he said that Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "Soon you will be pressured to revile me, so revile me; but if you are pressured to declare disassociation (bara'ah) from me, then do not declare disassociation from me, for I am upon Islam. So let one of you stretch out his neck (to be killed), may his mother be bereaved of him, for after Islam he has neither this world nor the Hereafter." Then Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) recited this verse: "Except one who is compelled while his heart is at rest with faith." [Surah al-Nahl: 106]
The chain of this hadith is sahih (authentic), and the two Shaykhs did not record it.

Grading: Its narrators are, on the whole, trustworthy (thiqah), but it is munqati' (broken). Technical note / Defect ('illah): Abu Sadiq (al-Azdi al-Kufi) did not hear from Ali, as Abu Hatim al-Razi said. 2/ 924. Reference / Source: Ibn 'Asakir narrated it in similar form in "Tarikh Dimashq" (7/ 466), without mention of the verse, via Abd al-Malik bin 'Umayr, from Hamdan the freed slave (mawla) of Ali, from Ali. Grading: And al-Dhahabi declared its chain sahih in "Tarikh al-Islam" (2/ 924).
