Mustadrak al-Hakim — Hadith 3343

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Jabir bin Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him) that when the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) halted at al-Hijr during the expedition of Tabuk, he (peace and blessings be upon him) stood up and addressed the people, saying: "O people! Do not ask your Prophet for miracles. The people of Salih (peace be upon him) asked their Prophet that a sign be sent to them, so Allah sent them the she-camel. She used to come from this mountain pass and drink their water on her day of turn, and they would drink as much of her milk as they used to quench their thirst with from their water. Then they rebelled against the command of their Lord and slaughtered her. So Allah gave them a promise of three days, and that promise of Allah was not false. Then a mighty blast seized them, and Allah destroyed every one of them who was beneath the east and west of the heavens (on the face of the earth), except for one man who was in the Sanctuary of Allah; the Sanctuary saved him from the punishment of Allah." The Companions said: "O Messenger of Allah! Who was he?" He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "He was Abu Righal."
This hadith has a sahih (authentic) chain, but the two Shaykhs (Bukhari and Muslim) did not record it.

Grading: This hadith is sahih; Muslim bin Khalid (al-Zanji) is da'if (weak) but is taken into account in corroborations and supporting reports, and he has been corroborated, as has already passed at number (3287).
Reference / Source: Ibn Hibban (6197) recorded it through the route of 'Abd Allah bin Wahb, from Muslim bin Khalid, with this same chain. There it was graded da'if, so it is corrected from here.
