Mustadrak al-Hakim — Hadith 3341

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ubadah bin al-Samit (may Allah be pleased with him) that he said: I asked the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) about this saying of Allah, the Mighty and Majestic: "For them are glad tidings in the life of this world and in the Hereafter" [Surah Yunus: 64]. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "It is the righteous dream which a man sees himself, or which is shown (to someone else) for him."
This hadith has a sahih (authentic) chain, but the two Shaykhs (Bukhari and Muslim) did not record it.

Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Grading: This hadith is sahih, and there is no harm in the narrators of this chain, except that it is "munqati'" (broken).
Technical note / Defect ('illah): Abu Salamah did not hear from 'Ubadah bin al-Samit, as Ibn Khirash and al-Mizzi stated in "Tahdhib al-Kamal" and "Tuhfat al-Ashraf".
Note / Clarification: Abu Qilabah: he is 'Abd al-Malik bin Muhammad al-Raqashi; and Abu 'Asim: he is al-Dahhak bin Makhlad al-Nabil.
Reference / Source: Ahmad (37/ 22687) and Ibn Majah (3898) recorded it through the route of Waki', from 'Ali bin al-Mubarak, with this same chain.
Reference / Source: Muhammad bin al-Muthanna (Abu Musa al-Zamin) and 'Uthman bin 'Umar narrated it from 'Ali bin al-Mubarak in al-Tabari's "Tafsir" (11/ 134), and they said in it: "From Abu Salamah, who said: I was informed from 'Ubadah bin al-Samit" and mentioned it.
Technical note / Defect ('illah): And this is a clear indication of the break (inqita').
Reference / Source: Ahmad recorded it (22688) through the route of Aban bin Yazid, and (22740) through the route of Harb bin Shaddad, and al-Tirmidhi (2275) through the route of Harb bin Shaddad and 'Imran al-Qattan; all three of them narrate it from Yahya bin Abi Kathir in the same way.
Details of the narration: However, in the narration of Harb and 'Imran al-Qattan with al-Tirmidhi it reads: "From Abu Salamah, who said: I was informed from 'Ubadah bin al-Samit", like the narration of Muhammad bin al-Muthanna and 'Uthman bin 'Umar. And this narration of Harb will come in the same form with the author (al-Hakim) at number (7378).
Technical note / Defect ('illah): As for what occurs with Ibn Mandah in the book "al-Ruh" (as found in Ibn Hajar's "al-Nukat al-Ziraf" 4/ 263), in the route of al-'Abbas bin al-Walid bin Mazyad from his father from al-Awza'i from Yahya bin Abi Kathir from Abu Salamah, with the words "'Ubadah narrated to me", that is an error (wahm) by some of its narrators, and it is a "shadh" (anomalous) narration.
Reference / Source: Ahmad (22767) recorded it through the route of Safwan bin 'Amr, from Humayd bin 'Abd al-Rahman al-Yazani: "A man asked 'Ubadah bin al-Samit about the saying of Allah: ﴿لَهُمُ الْبُشْرَى فِي الْحَيَاةِ الدُّنْيَا﴾ [For them are good tidings in the life of this world]" and he mentioned it.
Grading: This chain is good (jayyid), if Humayd heard it from 'Ubadah.
Corroborating chains and supporting reports: The hadith of Abu al-Darda', which will come with the author at number (8260), serves as a supporting report (shahid) for it. There is also another supporting report from 'Abd Allah bin 'Amr in Ahmad (11/ 7044).
