It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ubayy bin Ka'b (may Allah be pleased with him) that he said concerning the last verse of the Qur'an to be revealed, that it is this: "There has certainly come to you a Messenger from among yourselves; grievous to him is what you suffer; he is deeply concerned for you, and to the believers he is most kind and merciful" [Surah al-Tawbah: 128].
This hadith of Shu'bah from Yunus bin Ubayd is sahih (authentic) on the condition of the two Shaykhs (Bukhari and Muslim), and they did not record it.

Grading: The report is hasan. Technical note / Defect ('illah): About Yusuf bin Mihran, Ahmad bin Hanbal, Abu Dawud and Abu Hatim al-Razi mentioned that no one is known to have narrated from him except Ali bin Zayd bin Jud'an; for this reason Ahmad said: He is not known. However, Ibn Sa'd and Abu Zur'ah al-Razi declared him thiqah (trustworthy), but Ali bin Zayd is weak. As for the narration of Yunus bin Ubayd together with him (Ali bin Zayd) from Yusuf bin Mihran, Bakkar bin Qutaybah is alone in it from Abu Amir al-Aqadi, while Ishaq bin Rahawayh contradicted him in his "Musnad" (as in Ibn Hajar's "al-Matalib al-Aliyah", 3617) and narrated it from Abu Amir, from Shu'bah, from Ali bin Zayd alone (without Yunus), from Yusuf bin Mihran. Likewise more than one of Shu'bah's students narrated it from him. Al-Hafiz Ibn Hajar graded its isnad hasan in "al-Matalib". Reference / Source: Abdullah bin Ahmad recorded it in his additions to the "Musnad" of his father (35/ 21113) by way of Bishr bin Umar, from Shu'bah, from Ali bin Zayd alone, with this isnad. See the rest of its takhrij there. Reference / Source: He also recorded it there within hadith number (21226) by way of Abu Ja'far al-Razi, from al-Rabi' bin Anas, from Abu al-Aliyah, from Ubayy bin Ka'b. Corroborating chains and supporting reports: It was also narrated by way of al-Hasan al-Basri in Ahmad bin Mani''s "Musnad" (as in al-Busiri's "Ithaf al-Khiyarah", 7702), and by way of Qatadah in al-Tabari's "Tafsir" (11/ 78), both from Ubayy bin Ka'b. Al-Hasan and Qatadah did not hear from Ubayy, but these two routes together with those before them strengthen this report from Ubayy. Important point: We say: Differing reports have come from the Companions about the last (verse) revealed. See al-Suyuti's "al-Itqan fi Ulum al-Qur'an" (1/ 77-81) and Ibn Hajar's "Fath al-Bari" in the commentary on hadiths (4544) and (4654). Al-Bayhaqi said in "Dala'il al-Nubuwwah" (7/ 139): This difference goes back - and Allah knows best - to each of them reporting according to the knowledge he had, or meaning that what he mentioned was among the last verses revealed.
