Mustadrak al-Hakim — Hadith 3306

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Uqbah bin Amir al-Juhani (may Allah be pleased with him) that he said: I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) say: "'And prepare against them whatever you are able of strength' [Surah al-Anfal: 60]. Indeed, strength means archery."
This hadith is sahih (authentic) on the condition of the two Shaykhs (Bukhari and Muslim), but Imam Bukhari did not record it because Salih bin Kaysan narrated it as mawquf (stopping at the Companion).

Hadith Takhrij «
Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Grading: Its isnad is sahih, except that al-Sari bin Khuzaymah - who is a hafiz and a hujjah (authority) - was contradicted in narrating it as marfu'.
Details of the narration: Abdullah bin Abd al-Rahman al-Darimi narrated it in his "Sunan" (2448), and Abu al-Azhar Ahmad bin al-Azhar in al-Bayhaqi's "Shu'ab al-Iman" (3989), from Abdullah bin Yazid al-Muqri' with this same isnad, and the two of them made it mawquf on Uqbah bin Amir.
Important point: But what is mahfuz (preserved) is that it is marfu'.
Reference / Source: For Ahmad (28/ 17432), Muslim (1917), Abu Dawud (2514), Ibn Majah (2813) and Ibn Hibban (4709) recorded it by way of Amr bin al-Harith, from Abu Ali Thumamah bin Shufayy, from Uqbah bin Amir, from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him).
Reference / Source: Al-Tirmidhi (3083) also recorded it as marfu' by way of Usamah bin Zayd al-Laythi, from Salih bin Kaysan, from a man he did not name, from Uqbah, from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him).

Technical note / Defect ('illah): This is what the author said, but we have found the narration of Salih bin Kaysan in al-Tirmidhi and others only as marfu'.
