Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Note / Clarification: It came like this in our manuscript sources without an alif even though it is in the accusative case, following the usage of those who write the accusative without an alif. See the commentary at hadith (1429).
Grading: Its chain up to Iyad is hasan. There is disagreement about whether Iyad was a Companion; if he was not a Companion, then he is a mukhadram Tabi'i (one who lived in both the pre-Islamic and Islamic eras without meeting the Prophet), and this hadith of his is mursal. Some narrated it from Simak and made it a narration of Iyad al-Ash'ari from Abu Musa.
Reference / Source: Ibn Asakir recorded it in "Tarikh Dimashq" (32/ 33) by way of al-Hakim with this chain.
Reference / Source: Ibn Sa'd recorded it in "al-Tabaqat" (4/ 100), Ibn Abi Shaybah in his "Musnad" (664) and his "Musannaf" (12/ 123), Ibn Abi Asim in "al-Ahad wa al-Mathani" (2515), al-Tabari in his "Tafsir" (6/ 284), al-Tabarani in "al-Kabir" (17/ (1016)), Abu Nu'aym in "Ma'rifat al-Sahabah" (5438) and "Akhbar Asbahan" (1/ 59), al-Khatib in "Tarikh Baghdad" (2/ 363), and Ibn Asakir in "Tarikh Dimashq" (32/ 33 - 34 and 47/ 252), by various routes from Shu'bah, with the same chain.
Reference / Source: Al-Tabari recorded it (6/ 284), Ibn Abi Hatim (4/ 1160), and Ibn Asakir (32/ 34 and 47/ 253) by way of Abd al-Samad bin Abd al-Warith and Abu al-Walid al-Tayalisi, from Shu'bah, from Simak, from Iyad, from Abu Musa al-Ash'ari; so they made it connected (mawsul) by mentioning Abu Musa.
Reference / Source: Likewise it was recorded in connected form by Tammam al-Razi in his "Fawa'id" (1108), al-Bayhaqi in "Dala'il al-Nubuwwah" (5/ 351), and Ibn Asakir (32/ 34), by way of Abd Allah bin Idris al-Awdi, from his father, from Simak, with the same chain.
Corroborating chains and supporting reports: It is supported (as a shahid) by the marfu' hadith of Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) with Ibn Abi Hatim (4/ 160) and al-Tabarani in "al-Awsat" (1392),
Grading: and its chain is hasan.
