It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) addressed the people during the Farewell Hajj and said: "Satan has despaired of ever being worshipped (again) in this land of yours, but he is content to be obeyed in those of your deeds which you consider trivial and insignificant; so beware (of Satan), O people! I am leaving among you something which, if you hold fast to it, you will never go astray: the Book of Allah and the Sunnah of His Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). Indeed every Muslim is the brother of another Muslim; the Muslims are all brothers, and it is not lawful for anyone to take anything of his brother's wealth except what he gives willingly. Do not wrong one another, and do not become disbelievers after me, striking one another's necks."
Imam Bukhari used the hadiths of Ikrimah as evidence and Imam Muslim used Abu Uways Abdullah bin Uways as evidence, and all its other narrators are agreed upon. There is agreement on recording in the "Sahih" the narration of this sermon of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) containing these words: "O people! I am leaving among you that after which you will never go astray if you hold fast to it: the Book of Allah; and you will be asked about me, so what will you say?" The mention of holding fast to the Sunnah in this sermon is gharib (singular), and it is needed.

Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Note / Clarification: It is thus in the manuscripts, while in al-Dhahabi's Talkhis and the printed edition it is "akh al-muslim"; and in Imam al-Bayhaqi's books, via Imam al-Hakim, it is narrated as "akhu al-muslim" (with the waw).
Grading: The chain is "hasan". Technical note / Defect ('illah): The narration of Isma'il bin Abi Uways and his father is of hasan standing in corroborations and supporting reports; however, in the words "wa sunnata nabiyyihi" (and the Sunnah of His Prophet) there appears to be an error by a narrator, because in the narration of Jabir bin Abd Allah in Sahih Muslim (1218) on this occasion the words are "the Book of Allah" and "you will be asked about me"; it seems the narrator of Ibn Abbas's narration, through error, replaced this with "the Sunnah of His Prophet". Reference / Source: Al-Bayhaqi narrated this hadith in "al-Sunan" (6/ 96), "al-Dala'il" (5/ 449) and "al-I'tiqad" (p. 228) from Imam al-Hakim with this same chain. Reference / Source: Imam al-Uqayli narrated it in "al-Du'afa'" (770) via al-Abbas bin al-Fadl al-Asfati, in abridged form with its second part. Reference / Source: Muhammad bin Nasr al-Marwazi narrated it in "al-Sunnah" (68), al-Ajurri in "al-Shari'ah" (1705), and Ibn al-Mundhir in "al-Awsat", via various routes from Isma'il bin Abi Uways. Corroborating chains and supporting reports: A shahid (supporting report) for its first part is the narration of Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) found in Sahih Muslim (2812) and elsewhere. Corroborating chains and supporting reports: Another supporting report is narrated from Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) in Musnad Ahmad 14/ (8810); the rest of its supporting reports can be seen there. Corroborating chains and supporting reports: A supporting report for the second part is the narration of Jabir in Sahih Muslim (1218), but with some difference in wording, as mentioned in the first comment. Grading: This balaghat narration of Imam Malik is not sahih in terms of its chain, because the intermediary is unnamed. Technical note / Defect ('illah): Al-Hafiz Ibn Hajar writes in "Ithaf al-Maharah" (16024) that Ibn Abd al-Barr transmitted it with a connected chain via Kathir bin Abd Allah from his father from his grandfather, and Kathir bin Abd Allah is a weak narrator according to the majority; most likely Imam Malik took this narration from him. 24/ (15488). Corroborating chains and supporting reports: A supporting report for the third part is the narration of Amr bin Yathribi, which is in Musnad Ahmad 24/ (15488). (5978). Corroborating chains and supporting reports: Another supporting report is narrated from Abu Humayd al-Sa'idi (may Allah be pleased with him) in Musnad Ahmad 39/ (23605) and Sahih Ibn Hibban (5978). Important point: The phrase "A Muslim is the brother of a Muslim" is frequently narrated in several well-known hadiths. (65). Corroborating chains and supporting reports: A supporting report for the fourth part is the narration of Jarir bin Abd Allah al-Bajali (may Allah be pleased with him), which is in al-Bukhari (121) and Muslim (65). (66). Corroborating chains and supporting reports: Another supporting report, from the narration of Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both), is in al-Bukhari (6166) and Muslim (66). (6095). Corroborating chains and supporting reports: A third supporting report is the narration of Hujr bin Adi, which will come in the author's book at number (6095).
Reference / Source: It is only in Sahih Muslim (1218); Imam al-Bukhari did not narrate it.
