Mustadrak al-Hakim — Hadith 3214

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin al-Zubayr (may Allah be pleased with them both) that an enemy from their own land attacked the Negus (al-Najashi). The Muhajirun (Companions) came to him and said: We wish to go out against them so that we may fight alongside you and you may see our courage, and (in this way) we may also repay the kindness you have shown us. The Negus replied: "Hardships that come with the help of Allah are better than relief that comes with the help of people." (Sayyiduna Abdullah bin al-Zubayr said:) It was on this occasion that this verse was revealed: "And indeed, among the People of the Book are those who believe in Allah and in what was revealed to you and what was revealed to them, humbling themselves before Allah" [Surah Al Imran: 199].
This hadith has a sahih (authentic) chain of narration, and the two Shaykhs (Bukhari and Muslim) did not record it.

Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Grading: Its chain is da'if;
Technical note / Defect ('illah): Abd Allah bin Ali al-Ghazzal is majhul (unknown), and Mus'ab bin Thabit (the son of Abd Allah bin al-Zubayr) is da'if, not strong. The author (al-Hakim) is alone in recording this hadith.
Note / Clarification: His saying "لأدواء" is the plural of "داء" (illness).
