It is narrated from Ubayd bin Umayr that Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) asked the Companions of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him): In your opinion, about whom was this verse revealed: "Would any of you wish to have a garden" [Surah al-Baqarah: 266]? They said: Allah knows best. At this he became angry and said: Say either "We know" or "We do not know." Then Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) said: O Commander of the Believers! I have something in my mind about it. Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) said: Speak, O my nephew, and do not belittle yourself. Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) said: It is given as a parable for a deed. Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) asked: Which deed? He said: For a deed. Then Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) said (by way of explanation): It is the parable of a wealthy man who does good deeds; then Allah sends devils to him, and he begins to commit sins until he drowns all his previous deeds.
This hadith is sahih (authentic) on the condition of the two Shaykhs (Bukhari and Muslim), and they did not record it.

Grading: This hadith is sahih, and this chain is "hasan" on account of Ibn Abi Mulaykah (who is Abu Bakr bin Abi Mulaykah, the brother of Abd Allah), as is made clear in al-Bukhari's "Sahih". Reference / Source: Thus al-Bukhari recorded it under no. (4538) via Hisham (Ibn Yusuf al-San'ani), from Ibn Jurayj, who said: I heard Abd Allah bin Abi Mulaykah narrating from Ibn 'Abbas. He (Ibn Jurayj) said: And I heard his brother Abu Bakr bin Abi Mulaykah narrating from 'Ubayd bin 'Umayr, who said: 'Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) said … etc. Important point: So al-Hakim's including it as a supplement (istidrak) is an oversight on his part. Details of the narration: It will come under no. (6440) via Ayyub, from Ibn Abi Mulaykah: that 'Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) …
