It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Whoever comes to this mosque of ours to learn or teach some good is like one who strives in the path of Allah; and whoever comes for some other purpose is like a man who sees a (fine) thing that pleases him but it is not his." And sometimes he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "He sees those who pray but is not one of them, and he sees those who remember Allah but is not among them."

Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Grading: It is weak because of the idtirab (inconsistency) in this narration from Sa'id al-Maqburi. Technical note / Defect ('illah): Abu Sakhr (Humayd bin Ziyad) used to make errors in his hadiths, as he did here by attributing it to al-Maqburi and narrating it with a connected chain. Reference / Source: Imam Ahmad (vol. 14, 8603 and vol. 15, 9419) and Ibn Majah (227) narrated it via two routes from Abu Sakhr Humayd bin Ziyad. Note / Clarification: This narration will come again right after it via Haywah bin Shurayh from Abu Sakhr. Technical note / Defect ('illah): Muhammad bin Ajlan narrated this from Sa'id al-Maqburi, but there is a variation in its chain: Sufyan al-Thawri narrated it from Sa'id al-Maqburi, from Abu Bakr bin Abd al-Rahman bin al-Harith bin Hisham, who narrated it as the personal saying of Ka'b al-Ahbar (mawquf). 6/ 16. Details of the narration: And Sufyan bin Uyaynah narrated it from Sa'id al-Maqburi, from Abu Bakr bin Abd al-Rahman, from his father (Abd al-Rahman bin al-Harith), from Ka'b al-Ahbar. Reference / Source: Both these narrations are in Imam Abu Nu'aym's book "Hilyat al-Awliya'", vol. 6, p. 16. Technical note / Defect ('illah): Ubayd Allah bin Umar al-Umari also narrated this from Sa'id al-Maqburi, and there is disagreement from him as well: Abdah bin Sulayman transmitted it in Hannad's "al-Zuhd" (957), and Abd Allah bin Numayr in Ibn Abi Shaybah's "al-Musannaf" 13/ 319 (and via him Abu Nu'aym in "al-Hilyah" 6/ 16), with the chain Sa'id al-Maqburi from Umar bin Abi Bakr bin Abd al-Rahman bin al-Harith, from his father, from Ka'b al-Ahbar. Technical note / Defect ('illah): Abd al-Aziz bin Muhammad al-Darawardi differed from both of them (Abdah and Ibn Numayr), as in Abu Nu'aym 6/ 16: he narrated it from Ubayd Allah bin Umar, from Sa'id al-Maqburi, in these words: "It reached me from Ka'b." Grading: Imam al-Daraqutni in "al-'Ilal" (2066) judged correct the narration of whoever narrated it as the personal saying of Ka'b al-Ahbar (mawquf).
