It is narrated from Yahya bin Qamtah that he said: I saw Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Amr (may Allah be pleased with them both) sitting in al-Masjid al-Haram opposite the Mizab (the waterspout of the Ka'bah). He recited this verse: "So We will surely turn you to a qiblah with which you will be pleased" [Surah al-Baqarah: 144], and said: It means towards the Mizab of the Ka'bah.
This hadith has a sahih (authentic) chain of narration, but the two Shaykhs (Bukhari and Muslim) did not record it.

Grading: Its chain is hasan; Yahya bin Qamtah - even though no one other than Ya'la bin Ata' narrated from him - was declared thiqah (trustworthy) by al-Ijli and Ibn Hibban. Ibn Hibban said in "Mashahir Ulama' al-Amsar" (633): He was among the precise (mutqin) narrators of the people of Makkah despite the paucity of his narrations; he died there, and he was alert.
