It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "The believer is not one who taunts, nor one who is obscene, nor one who is vulgar."
Although Muhammad bin Abd al-Rahman bin Abi Layla is attributed with a poor memory, he is one of the jurists and judges of Islam, and among the eminent descendants of the Companions and Successors of the Ansar. May Allah Almighty have mercy on them.

Grading: (2) This hadith is sahih (in terms of its text), but this chain is weak. Technical note / Defect ('illah): Ibn Abi Layla — who is Muhammad bin Abd al-Rahman — is "sayyi' al-hifz" (of poor memory), as the author said. Regarding Sabbah bin Yahya, Imam al-Bukhari said: "fihi nazar" (he is questionable), and al-'Uqayli mentioned him in "al-Du'afa'". But al-Barqani quoted in his "Su'alat" from al-Daraqutni (230) that he declared him trustworthy! Whereas al-Dhahabi said in "al-Mizan": he is "matruk" (abandoned), indeed "muttaham" (accused)! Reference / Source: Khaythamah bin Sulayman narrated it by this same route in his "Hadith" (pp. 77-78) from al-Husayn bin al-Hakam al-Hibari with this same chain.
