[أخبرنا أبو الحسن علي بن] محمد بن عُقبة الشَّيباني بالكوفة، حدثنا إبراهيم بن إسحاق الزُّهري، حدثنا يعلى بن عُبيد، حدثنا إسماعيل بن أبي خالد، عن عُمير بن سعيد النَّخَعي قال: سمعت عليًّا يُخبِر القومَ: أَنَّ هذه الزُّهَرةَ تسمِّيها العربُ الزُّهَرةَ، وتسمِّيها العجمُ أناهيد، فكان المَلَكانِ يَحكُمان بين الناس، فأتتهما [امرأة] (2) فأرادها كلُّ واحد منهما عن غير علم صاحبه، فقال أحدهما لصاحبه: يا أخي، إنَّ في نفسي بعضَ الأمر أريد أن أذكُرَه لك، قال: اذكُرْه يا أخي، لعلَّ الذي في نفسي مثلُ الذي في نفسك، فاتَّفَقا على أمرٍ في ذلك، فقالت لهما المرأة: ألا تُخبِراني بما تَصعَدانِ السماءَ، وبما تَهبِطان إلى الأرض؟ فقالا: باسم الله الأعظم، به نَهبِطُ وبه نَصعد، فقالت: ما أنا بمُواتِيكما الذي تريدان حتى تُعلِّمانِيهِ، فقال أحدهما لصاحبه علِّمها إياه، فقال: كيف لنا بشدَّة عذاب الله؟ قال الآخر: إنَّا نرجو سَعَةَ رحمةِ الله، فعلَّمَها إياه، فتكلَّمت به، فطارت إلى السماء، ففَزِعَ مَلَكٌ في السماء لصعودها فطأطأَ رأسَه، فلم يَجلِس بعدُ، ومَسَخَها الله فكانت كوكبًا (3).

It is narrated from Umayr bin Sa'id al-Nakha'i that he heard Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) telling the people: "This star, which the Arabs call al-Zuhrah and the non-Arabs call Anahid, (its story is that) two angels used to judge between people. A woman came to them, and each of them desired her (wrongfully) without his companion knowing. Then one of them said to his companion: 'O brother! There is something in my heart that I want to tell you.' He replied: 'O brother! Say it; perhaps what is in my heart is the same as what is in yours.' So the two of them agreed on the matter. The woman said to them: 'Will you not tell me that (name) by which you ascend to the heaven and descend to the earth?' They said: 'We descend by "bismillah al-a'zam" (the greatest name of Allah), and by it we ascend.' She said: 'I will not fulfil your desire until you teach it (the word) to me.' One of them said to his companion: 'Teach it to her.' The other said: 'How will we face the severe punishment of Allah?' The first said: 'We hope for the vastness of Allah's mercy.' So they taught her that word; she spoke it and flew up to the heaven. An angel in the heaven was frightened by her ascent and lowered his head, and he did not sit (upright) after that. Then Allah transformed that woman, and she became a star."

Grading: Its narrators are thiqah, but it is from the Isra'iliyyat (reports from the People of the Book).
وأخرجه أبو الشيخ في "العظمة" (698) من طريق عبد الله بن عمران، عن يعلى بن عبيد الطنافسي، بهذا الإسناد.
Reference / Source: Abu al-Shaykh recorded it in "al-'Azamah" (698) by way of 'Abdullah bin 'Imran from Ya'la bin 'Ubayd al-Tanafisi, with this chain.
وأخرجه إسحاق بن راهويه في "مسنده" - كما في "المطالب العالية" (3522) - وابن أبي الدنيا في "العقوبات" (223) من طريق جرير بن عبد الحميد، عن إسماعيل بن أبي خالد، به.
Reference / Source: Ishaq bin Rahawayh recorded it in his "Musnad" - as in "al-Matalib al-'Aliyah" (3522) - and Ibn Abi al-Dunya in "al-'Uqubat" (223), by way of Jarir bin 'Abd al-Hamid from Isma'il bin Abi Khalid, with this chain.
وأخرجه مختصرًا الطبري في "تفسيره" 1/ 456 من طريق خالد الحذّاء، عن عمير بن سعيد، به وسمَّى الملكين هاروت وماروت.
Reference / Source: Al-Tabari recorded it in abridged form in his "Tafsir" 1/456 by way of Khalid al-Hadhdha' from 'Umayr bin Sa'id, and in it he named the two angels Harut and Marut.
