أخبرنا أبو زكريا يحيى بن محمد العَنبَري، حدثنا محمد بن عبد السلام، حدثنا إسحاق بن إبراهيم، أخبرنا أبو معاوية، عن الأعمش، عن عُمَارة بن عُمير، عن عبد الرحمن بن يزيد قال: ذَكَروا عند عبد الله أصحابَ محمد ﷺ وإيمانَهم، فقال عبد الله: إِنَّ أَمْرَ محمدٍ كان بيِّنًا لمن رآه، والذي لا إلهَ غيرُه، ما آمَنَ مؤمنٌ أفضلَ من إيمانٍ بغيبٍ، ثم قرأ: ﴿الم (1) ذَلِكَ الْكِتَابُ لَا رَيْبَ فِيهِ﴾ إلى قوله: ﴿يُؤْمِنُونَ بِالْغَيْبِ﴾ (3).
هذا حديث صحيح على شرط الشيخين، ولم يُخرجاه.

The Companions of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) and their faith were mentioned in the presence of Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him), and he said: "The matter of Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) was perfectly clear to those who saw him (peace and blessings be upon him) with their own eyes. But by the One besides whom there is no true deity, no believer's faith is superior to faith in the unseen." Then he recited these verses, from "Alif Lam Mim. That is the Book about which there is no doubt" up to "who believe in the unseen" [Surah al-Baqarah: 1-3].
This hadith is sahih (authentic) on the condition of the two Shaykhs (Imam Bukhari and Muslim), but they did not record it.

(3) إسناده صحيح. إسحاق بن إبراهيم: هو ابن راهويه، وأبو معاوية: هو محمد بن خازم الضرير.
Grading: Its chain is sahih.
Technical note / Defect ('illah): Ishaq bin Ibrahim is Ibn Rahawayh, and Abu Mu'awiyah is Muhammad bin Khazim al-Darir.
وأخرجه سعيد بن منصور في التفسير من "سننه" (180)، وابن أبي حاتم في "تفسيره" 1/ 36.

وأخرجه الواحدي في "الوسيط" 1/ 80 - 81 من طريق عبيدة بن حميد، عن الأعمش، به. وأخرجه ابن منده في "الإيمان" (209) من طريقين عن إسحاق بن راهويه، عن جرير بن عبد الحميد، عن الأعمش، به.
Reference / Source: Al-Wahidi recorded it in "al-Wasit" 1/80-81 by way of 'Ubaydah bin Humayd from al-A'mash, with this chain; and Ibn Mandah recorded it in "al-Iman" (209) by two routes from Ishaq bin Rahawayh from Jarir bin 'Abd al-Hamid from al-A'mash, with this chain.
Grading: Its chain is sahih.
