أخبرنا أبو بكر أحمد بن سلمان الفقيه ببغداد، حدثنا هلال بن العلاء الرِّقِّي، حدثنا أَبي، حدثنا عُبيد الله بن عمرو الرِّقِّي، عن زيد بن أبي أُنيسة، عن الأعمش، عن أبي صالح عن أبي هريرة، عن النبي ﷺ: ﴿وَنُفَضِّلُ بَعْضَهَا عَلَى بَعْضٍ فِي الْأُكُلِ﴾ [الرعد: 4]؛ بالنون (3).
هذا حديث صحيح على شرط الشيخين، ولم يُخرجاه.

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) recited (the word "nufaddilu") with "nun", this way: "wa nufaddilu ba'daha 'ala ba'din fi al-ukul" "And We make some of them excel others in fruit (taste)." [Surah al-Ra'd: 4]
This hadith is sahih (authentic) on the condition of the two Shaykhs (Bukhari and Muslim), but they did not record it.

(3) إسناده ضعيف لضعف العلاء بن هلال الرقي والد هلال. أبو صالح: هو ذكوان السَّمّان.
Grading: Its chain is "da'if".
Technical note / Defect ('illah): Its weakness is due to al-'Ala' bin Hilal al-Raqqi (the father of Hilal).
Details of the narration: Abu Salih here refers to "Dhakwan al-Samman".
وأخرجه الترمذي (3118) من طريق سيف بن محمد الثوري، عن الأعمش، بهذا الإسناد - وزاد فيه مرفوعًا قال: "الدَّقَل والفارسيّ والحُلْو والحامض". وحسَّنه الترمذي مع أنَّ فيه سيفًا الثوري وهو متَّهم بالكذب!
Reference / Source: Al-Tirmidhi (3118) narrated it via Sayf bin Muhammad al-Thawri, from al-A'mash, with this same chain, and added in it, as marfu': "Al-daqal (poor-quality dates), the Persian, the sweet and the sour dates".
Grading: Al-Tirmidhi called it "hasan", even though it contains Sayf al-Thawri, who is accused of "lying"!
