Mustadrak al-Hakim — Hadith 2942

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Dharr (may Allah be pleased with him) that a Bedouin came to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) and said: "Ya nabi'a Allah" (O Prophet of Allah, with a hamzah). So the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "I am not 'nabi'a Allah' (the word with a hamzah); rather, I am 'nabiyyu Allah' (the Prophet of Allah, without a hamzah)."
This hadith is sahih (authentic) on the condition of the two Shaykhs (Bukhari and Muslim), but they did not record it, and it has a detailed supporting narration (shahid) whose chain is not on the condition of this book.

Hadith Grading
Hadith Takhrij «
Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Weakening: This chain is "da'if" (weak) because of the weakness of Humran bin A'yan. For this reason al-Dhahabi pointed out this defect in his "Talkhis", and, objecting to the author's (al-Hakim's) grading of it as sahih, said: "Rather it is munkar; it is not authentic."
Reference / Source: Ibn 'Adi narrated it in "al-Kamil" (2/ 436-437) via Hamzah al-Zayyat, from Humran bin A'yan, who said: "A man came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him)" and he mentioned it as "mursal".
Supporting report (weak): Something similar is also narrated from the hadith of Ibn 'Abbas. Al-'Uqayli narrated it in "al-Du'afa'" (1021) and Ibn Jumay' al-Saydawi in "Mu'jam al-Shuyukh" (p. 226) via 'Abd al-Rahim bin Hammad al-Thaqafi, from al-A'mash, from al-Sha'bi, from Ibn 'Abbas.
Criticism: This 'Abd al-Rahim narrates "munkar" reports from al-A'mash which have no basis in the hadith of al-A'mash, and al-Dhahabi declared him "wahi" (very weak) in "Mizan al-I'tidal".
