Mustadrak al-Hakim — Hadith 2919

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Arguing about the Qur'an is disbelief."
The narration of Mu'tamir from Muhammad bin Amr is sahih (authentic) on the condition of Imam Muslim, but the two Shaykhs (Bukhari and Muslim) did not record it, while as for Umar bin Abi Salamah, they did not use him as evidence.

Explanation & Benefits

Grading of the hadith and chain: The hadith is "sahih", and this chain is "hasan" on account of 'Umar bin Abi Salamah. Abu 'Asim is "al-Dahhak bin Makhlad al-Nabil" and Sa'id is "Ibn Abi 'Arubah".
Manuscript variation: In manuscript (S) it is written above it: "z Shu'bah", meaning: apparently it is Shu'bah, not Sa'id. Whatever the case, both of them (Sa'id and Shu'bah) are "thiqah and a proof (hujjah)".
Reference / Source: It was recorded by Ahmad (16/ 10202) via Sufyan al-Thawri and (10414) via Mansur bin al-Mu'tamir, both of them from Sa'd bin Ibrahim, with this same chain.
Reference / Source: Ahmad (12/ 7508) also recorded it via Zakariyya bin Abi Za'idah from Sa'd bin Ibrahim from Abu Salamah. In it he did not mention "'Umar bin Abi Salamah", who is the paternal cousin of Sa'd bin Ibrahim. Sa'd narrated from him and also from his father Abu Salamah bin Abd al-Rahman bin 'Awf (who is Sa'd's paternal uncle).
Technical note: Therefore the mention of 'Umar (in the previous chain) belongs to the category of "al-mazid fi muttasil al-asanid" (an extra narrator added within connected chains).
