It is narrated from Muhallab bin Abi Sufrah that he heard a man narrating from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) that, fearing Abu Sufyan would launch a night attack, he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "If you are attacked by night, let your call be 'Ha Mim, la yunsarun' (Ha Mim, they will not be helped)."
This hadith has a sahih (authentic) chain on the condition of the two Shaykhs (Bukhari and Muslim), except that there is irsal (a missing link) in it; the man whom Muhallab bin Abi Sufrah did not name is Sayyiduna al-Bara' bin Azib (may Allah be pleased with him).

Grading: The hadith is sahih and its narrators are thiqah. Technical note / Defect ('illah): Zuhayr heard from Abu Ishaq after his deterioration (taghayyur), and that is why there is disagreement in his narration over whether it is mawsul or mursal; but from the narrations of al-Thawri and Sharik its being mawsul is established. Reference / Source: Al-Nasa'i narrated it through al-Husayn bin Ayyash as mursal. 14/ 414. Corroborating chains and supporting reports: Yahya bin Adam also supported its being mursal, in Ibn Abi Shaybah.
Important point: Al-Hakim has called the Companion's being unnamed "irsal", whereas according to the majority of hadith scholars irsal is where the Companion is not mentioned at all, not where he is mentioned without being named.
