Mustadrak al-Hakim — Hadith 2535

أخبرنا أبو العبَّاس السَّيّاري، حدثنا عبد العزيز بن حاتم، حدثنا علي ابن الحسن بن شَقيق، حدثنا عبد المؤمن بن خالد الحنفي، حدثني نَجْدة بن نُفيع، قال: سألتُ ابن عباس عن قول الله ﷿: ﴿إِلَّا تَنْفِرُوا يُعَذِّبْكُمْ عَذَابًا أَلِيمًا﴾ [التوبة: 39] قال: استنفَرَ رسولُ الله حيًّا من أحياء العرب، فتثاقَلُوا، فأُمسك عنهم المطر، وكان عذابَهم (2).
هذا حديث صحيح الإسناد، ولم يُخرجاه.

It is narrated from Najdah bin Nufay' that he said: I asked Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) about the saying of Allah, the Mighty and Majestic: "If you do not go forth, He will punish you with a painful punishment" [Surah al-Tawbah: 39]. He said: "The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) called upon one of the Arab tribes to go forth for jihad, but they were sluggish, so rain was withheld from them, and that was their punishment."
This hadith has a sahih (authentic) chain of narration, but the two Shaykhs (Bukhari and Muslim) did not record it.

وسيأتي برقم (2584) من طريق زيد بن الحُباب عن عبد المؤمن بن خالد.
Reference / Source: It will come at number (2584) through Zayd bin al-Hubab.
