إِنَّ مِنْ إِخْوَانِكُمْ قَوْمًا لَيْسَ لَهُمْ مَالٌ وَلَا عَشِيرَةٌ فَلْيَضُمَّ أَحَدُكُمْ إِلَيْهِ

أخبرني أبو بكر محمد بن عبد الله الورّاق، حدثنا الحسن بن سفيان، حدثنا أبو بكر بن أَبي شَيْبة، حدثنا عَبِيدة بن حُميد، حدثنا الأسود بن قيس، عن نُبَيح العَنَزي، عن جابر بن عبد الله، عن رسول الله ﷺ: أنه أراد أن يغزوَ، فقال: "يا معشرَ المهاجرين والأنصار، إنَّ من إخوانِكم قومًا ليس لهم مالٌ ولا عَشِيرةٌ، فليَضُمَّ أحدُكم إليه الرجلَين أو الثلاثةَ، وما لأحدنا مِن ظهرِ جملِه إِلَّا عُقْبةٌ كَعُقْبةِ أحدِهم"، قال: فضمَمْتُ إليَّ اثنين أو ثلاثة، ما لي إلّا عُقبةٌ كعُقْبة أحدِهم (1).
هذا حديث صحيح الإسناد، ولم يُخرجاه.

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Jabir bin Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) intended to go on a military expedition and said: "O company of the Muhajirun and the Ansar, among your brothers are some people who have neither wealth nor tribe, so let each of you take two or three men along with him. And we have room to ride our camel only by turns, just as each one of them will have his turn." Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) said: So I too took two or three people along with me, and my situation was that I had only as many turns riding the camel as each one of them had.
This hadith has a sahih (authentic) chain of narration, but the two Shaykhs (Bukhari and Muslim) did not record it.

(1) إسناده صحيح. نُبيح العَنَزي: هو ابن عبد الله الكوفي.
Grading: Its chain is sahih. Nubayh al-Anazi is a Kufan narrator.
وأخرجه أحمد 23/ (14863) عن عَبيدة بن حميد، وأخرجه أبو داود (2534) عن محمد بن سليمان الأنباري، عن عَبيدة بن حميد، بهذا الإسناد.
Reference / Source: Imam Ahmad and Abu Dawud (2534) narrated it with this same chain of Abidah bin Humayd.
والعُقبة، بالضم: ركوب مركبٍ واحدٍ بالنَّوبة على التعاقب.
Linguistic explanation: "Al-Uqbah" means riding a single mount in turns.
Grading: Its chain is sahih. Nubayh al-Anazi is a Kufan narrator.
