It is narrated from Mutarrif bin Abdullah; he said: A hadith used to reach me from Sayyiduna Abu Dharr (may Allah be pleased with him), and I longed to meet him. When I met him, I said: O Abu Dharr, a hadith narrated from you reached me, and because of it I wanted to meet you. He said: May Allah bless your father, now you have met me. I said: The hadith is that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) narrated to you. He said: "Indeed Allah Almighty loves three people and hates three." Then he said three times: I cannot lie against my Khalil (peace and blessings be upon him). I asked: Who are those whom Allah loves? He said: "A man who went out in the way of Allah with patience, seeking reward and for the sake of jihad; he met the enemy and fought until he was martyred. You also find mention of him in the revealed Book of Allah." Then he recited this verse: "Indeed Allah loves those who fight in His way in ranks as though they were a solid structure joined with lead" [Surah al-Saff: 4]. I asked: And who else? He said: "A man who has a bad neighbour who harms him, but he bears his harm patiently until Allah spares him (from that evil), either in his life or through death." I asked: And who else? He said: "A traveller who journeys with a group; they travel through the night until, in the last part of the night, sleep overcomes them and they lie down exhausted, and that man stands up and performs ablution (and prays) out of fear of Allah and seeking the reward that is with Him." I asked: Who are the three whom Allah hates? He said: "The arrogant and the boastful; you find him too in the Book of Allah: 'Indeed Allah does not love anyone arrogant and boastful' [Surah Luqman: 18]." I asked: And who else? He said: "The miser who reminds others of his favours." I asked: And who else? He said: "The merchant who sells his goods by swearing oaths."
This hadith is sahih (authentic) on the condition of Imam Muslim, but the two Shaykhs (Bukhari and Muslim) did not record it.
