Mustadrak al-Hakim — Hadith 2429

أخبرنا أبو بكر أحمد بن إسحاق الفقيه، أخبرنا عُبيد بن شَريك، حدثنا أبو الجُماهِر محمد بن عثمان التَّنُوخي، حدثنا الهيثم بن حُميد، أخبرني العلاء بن الحارث، عن القاسم بن عبد الرحمن، عن أبي أمامة: أنَّ رجلًا قال: يا رسول الله، ائذنْ لي في السِّياحة، فقال: "إنَّ سِياحةَ أمتي الجهادُ في سبيلِ الله" (2).
هذا حديث صحيح الإسناد، ولم يُخرجاه.

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Umamah (may Allah be pleased with him) that a man said: O Messenger of Allah! Grant me permission for wandering (siyahah: renouncing the world and living in seclusion). He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "The wandering of my Ummah is striving (jihad) in the path of Allah."
This hadith has a sahih (authentic) chain, but the two Shaykhs did not record it.

(2) حديث صحيح، وهذا إسناد قوي من أجل عبيد بن شريك: وهو عبيد بن عبد الواحد بن شريك.
Grading: The hadith is sahih.
Technical note / Defect ('illah): On account of 'Ubayd bin Sharik (who is 'Ubayd bin 'Abd al-Wahid bin Sharik) this chain is qawi (strong).
وأخرجه أبو داود (2486) عن أبي الجُماهِر، بهذا الإسناد.
Reference / Source: Imam Abu Dawud (2486) narrated it from Abu al-Jumahir with this same chain.
والسياحة: مفارقة الأمصار والذَّهاب في الأرض، كما كان فعل عُبَّاد بني إسرائيل.
Note / Clarification: "Siyahah" means leaving the cities and going out into the land, as the devout worshippers of the Children of Israel used to do.
