Mustadrak al-Hakim — Hadith 2281

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) forbade the mujaththamah (an animal tied up to be shot at) and the jallalah (an animal that feeds on filth).

Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Grading: The hadith is "sahih", and there is support (mutaba'ah) for Abd al-Samad bin al-Nu'man (al-Baghdadi)
Note / Clarification: Ayyub refers to Ayyub bin Abi Tamimah al-Sakhtiyani.
Reference / Source: Al-Bayhaqi (9/ 333) narrated it through the chain of Hammad bin Salamah, in which there is also the addition of the prohibition of drinking from the mouth of the waterskin.
Variation in the chain: Qatadah, narrating it from Ikrimah, mentioned "Ibn Abbas" instead of Abu Hurayrah (as has passed at number 2278); this is a kind of variation that does not affect its authenticity.
Reference / Source: Imam Ahmad (14/ 8789) and al-Tirmidhi (1795) narrated through the chain of Muhammad bin Amr that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), on the day of Khaybar, made unlawful every predator with fangs, "al-mujaththamah" (the animal tied up and shot to death) and the domestic donkey; its chain is "hasan".
