Mustadrak al-Hakim — Hadith 2260

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Irbad bin Sariyah al-Sulami (may Allah be pleased with him) that he said: I sold a young camel to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). Then I came to ask for payment and said: "O Messenger of Allah, pay me the price of my young camel." He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Yes, but I will pay it only at its due time." Then he paid me, and paid me in the best manner. Then a Bedouin came to him and said: "O Messenger of Allah, repay me my young camel." So he (peace and blessings be upon him) gave him a fully grown camel. He said: "O Messenger of Allah, this is better than my young camel." He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "It is yours. Indeed, the best of people are those who are best in repaying."
This hadith has a sahih (authentic) chain, but the two Shaykhs did not record it with this wording.
