It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "All the prophets will have pulpits of gold." He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "They will sit on them, but my pulpit will remain (empty); I will not sit on it (or he said: I will not be seated on it). Rather, I will remain standing before my Lord, fearing that Allah might send me to Paradise while my Ummah remains behind me. So I will say: O my Lord! My Ummah, my Ummah! Allah, the Mighty and Majestic, will say: O Muhammad! What do you want Me to do with your Ummah? I will say: O Lord! Hasten their reckoning. So they will be called and their reckoning will take place. Some of them will enter Paradise by the mercy of Allah, and some by my intercession. I will continue interceding until I am even given the (release) documents for people who have already been sent to Hell. At that time Malik, the keeper of Hell, will say: O Muhammad! You have not left anyone of your Ummah in Hell for the wrath of your Lord."
The chain of this hadith is sahih, except that the two Shaykhs did not use Muhammad bin Thabit al-Bunani as evidence; his narrations are few, but they are collected. This hadith is gharib among the reports on intercession, and the two of them (Bukhari and Muslim) did not record it.

Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Note / Clarification: (1) The printed edition has "wa ata Malikan" (Malik was given), whereas in manuscripts (Z) and (S) the word Malik is in the nominative (Malikun), not the accusative; however, the word "ya'ti" (will come) has dropped out of both, and in manuscript (Z) there is a blank space in its place, so we have restored it (the word ya'ti) by our own judgement, and Allah knows best. In the source works the wording is: "Until Malik (the keeper of Hellfire) will surely say…"
Grading: (2) This chain is "da'if" because of the weakness of Muhammad bin Thabit al-Bunani. Al-Hafiz al-Dhahabi said in "Talkhis al-Mustadrak": Muhammad (bin Thabit) was declared weak by more than one hadith scholar, and the hadith is "munkar". Reference / Source: Ibn Khuzaymah narrated this report in his book "al-Tawhid" (vol. 2, pp. 598-599) by way of Abu Zur'ah al-Razi with this same chain. Reference / Source: Al-Tabarani narrated it in "al-Mu'jam al-Kabir" (10771) and "al-Mu'jam al-Awsat" (2937), and Ibn Asakir in "Tarikh Dimashq" (vol. 4, p. 95), through the route of Ibrahim bin Abd Allah bin Ayyub al-Mukharrimi. Technical note / Defect ('illah): The aforementioned narrator Ibrahim al-Mukharrimi is not thiqah, as al-Daraqutni stated explicitly; however, he is present here as a corroborating narrator (mutabi'), and the real defect of this chain lies in another narrator. Reference / Source: Ibn Abi al-Dunya narrated it in "Husn al-Zann billah" (61) by way of Sa'id bin Muhammad al-Jarmi. Reference / Source: Abu al-Qasim bin Bishran narrated it in his "Amali" (504) through the route of Abu Qabisah Muhammad bin Abd al-Rahman, who reported it from Sa'id al-Jarmi.
