Mustadrak al-Hakim — Hadith 2026

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) that a man of the Ansar from the people of Quba invited the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), and we went along with him (peace and blessings be upon him). When he (peace and blessings be upon him) had finished eating and washed his hands, he said: 'Alhamdu lillahi alladhi yut'imu wa la yut'am, manna 'alayna fa-hadana, wa at'amana wa saqana, wa kulla bala'in hasanin ablana, alhamdu lillahi ghayra muwadda'in wa la mukafa'in wa la makfurin wa la mustaghnan 'anhu, alhamdu lillahi alladhi at'ama min al-ta'am, wa saqa min al-sharab, wa kasa min al-'ury, wa hada min al-dalalah, wa bassara min al-'amayah, wa faddala 'ala kathirin mimman khalaqa tafdila, alhamdu lillahi Rabbi al-'alamin' (All praise is for Allah who feeds and is not fed; He bestowed favour upon us and guided us, fed us and gave us drink, and tried us with every good trial (i.e., tried us with blessings); all praise is for Allah, a praise that can never be bid farewell, whose due can never be repaid, which can never be met with ingratitude, and which can never be dispensed with; all praise is for Allah who gave food in hunger, gave drink in thirst, gave clothing in nakedness, guided out of misguidance, gave insight out of blindness, and favoured us above much of His creation; all praise is for Allah, Lord of all the worlds).
This hadith is sahih (authentic) on the condition of Imam Muslim, but the two Shaykhs (Bukhari and Muslim) did not record it.
