It is narrated from Sayyiduna Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) that Abu Talib fell ill and his condition grew worse, so the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) came to visit him. Abu Talib said: O my nephew, supplicate to your Lord whom you worship that He grant me well-being. So the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) supplicated: 'Allahumma ishfi 'ammi' (O Allah, cure my uncle). Then he stood up (so briskly) as if he had been released from ropes. Abu Talib said: That Lord of yours whom you worship certainly heeds your word too (i.e., He answers your supplication). He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "And you, O uncle, if you obey Allah, He will certainly heed you as well."
Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Note / Clarification: In the manuscripts this name was corrupted to "Abd al-Hamid" (with ha' and mim), and it has been corrected.
Note / Clarification: In the manuscripts the name here became "al-Qasim", whereas in "al-Talkhis" it is recorded correctly.
Note / Clarification: In the original manuscripts it was written "ba'athaka" in both places, but we have corrected it according to the margin of manuscript (Z) and the other source works that record the hadith.
71 - 72. Note / Clarification: In our manuscripts this word came "marfu'" (with dammah) because this clause is the answer to a condition. According to Arabic grammar, if the condition is in the past tense and the answer in the imperfect, both raf' and jazm are permissible in the answer, although jazm is more eloquent.
(319). Grading: Its chain is "very weak" because it contains al-Haytham bin Jammaz al-Bakka', whom the hadith scholars abandoned. Also the narrator Sharik bin Abd al-Majid is not reliable. Reference / Source: Al-Tabarani, Ibn Adi, al-Bayhaqi, al-Khatib al-Baghdadi and Ibn Asakir recorded it through various routes from Uqbah bin Mukram with this same chain. Grading: Abdullah bin Zaydan and al-Qati'i also recorded it, but its chain contains Muhammad bin Yunus al-Kudaymi, who is a "very weak" narrator.
