Mustadrak al-Hakim — Hadith 1941

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Salman al-Farisi (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Whoever says: 'Allahumma inni ushhiduka wa ushhidu mala'ikataka wa hamalata 'arshik, wa ushhidu man fis-samawati wa ushhidu man fil-ard, annaka antallahu la ilaha illa ant, wahdaka la sharika lak, wa ashhadu anna Muhammadan 'abduka wa rasuluk' (O Allah, I call You to witness, and I call to witness Your angels, the bearers of Your Throne, and all who are in the heavens and the earth, that You alone are Allah, there is no god but You, You are alone and have no partner, and I bear witness that Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) is Your servant and Messenger): whoever says it once, Allah frees one third of him from the Fire; whoever says it twice, Allah frees two thirds of him from the Fire; and whoever says it three times is freed from the Fire completely."
This hadith has a sahih (authentic) chain, but the two Shaykhs (Bukhari and Muslim) did not record it.

Hadith Grading
Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Note / Clarification: In the manuscripts the narrator's name had changed from "Humayd" to "Hamd". In al-Hakim's narration he is called "Humayd bin Mihran", which is an error; this is an unknown (majhul) Makkan narrator, not the trustworthy Basran.

Grading: It is "hasan" on account of supporting reports. Although Humayd is majhul, it is strengthened by the narration of Anas (may Allah be pleased with him).
Reference / Source: Imam al-Bayhaqi narrated it in "al-Da'awat al-Kabir" with this same chain of Imam al-Hakim.
Reference / Source: Al-Bazzar, al-Tabarani, Ibn 'Adi and Ibn Abi Shaybah narrated it with the chain of Zayd bin al-Hubab from Humayd, the freed slave of Ibn 'Alqamah.
Variation in the chain: One narration of al-Tabarani contains Ibrahim bin 'Abdullah al-Missisi, who is "matruk" (abandoned), and the imams declared him a liar and a fabricator of hadith.
Corroborating chains and supporting reports: The narrations of Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) (Abu Dawud, al-Nasa'i) have been criticised, but according to Ibn Hajar the hadith taken as a whole is "hasan".
