It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Amr (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Whoever on the face of the earth says these words: 'La ilaha illallah, wallahu akbar, wa subhan Allah, wal-hamdu lillah, wa la hawla wa la quwwata illa billah' (There is no god but Allah, Allah is the Greatest, glorified is Allah, all praise is for Allah, and without the help of Allah there is neither strength to turn away from evil nor power to do good), his sins are wiped away, even if they are more than the foam of the sea."
Shu'bah narrated it from Abu Balj Yahya bin Abi Sulaym and reported it as mawquf (a statement of the Companion).
Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Grading: Its chain is "hasan" on account of Abu Balj (Yahya bin Abi Sulaym), but Shu'bah bin al-Hajjaj contradicted Hatim bin Abi Saghirah and narrated it from Abu Balj with this same chain as "mawquf" (the statement of a Companion), as in the following narration; and on account of Shu'bah's precision and eminence, this (its being mawquf) is the preponderant view. Reference / Source: It was narrated by Imam Ahmad 11/ (6479) and (6973), and Imam al-Tirmidhi (3460), via Abd Allah bin Bakr al-Sahmi with this same chain. Al-Tirmidhi called it "hasan gharib". Reference / Source: It was narrated by Imam Ahmad (6959), al-Tirmidhi (3460 m) and al-Nasa'i (9875) and (10589) through various routes from Hatim bin Abi Saghirah.
