It is narrated from Sayyidah Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said to me: "O Aishah! Were it not that your people are close to the time of Jahiliyyah, I would demolish the House of Allah and include in it that part of the Hatim (Hijr) which they left outside, for they were unable to meet the cost of its construction. And I would make two doors for it: one to the east and one to the west, and I would make it level with the ground, and I would build it on the foundations of Sayyiduna Ibrahim (peace be upon him)." This is what prompted Ibn al-Zubayr (may Allah be pleased with him) to demolish the House of Allah and rebuild it. Yazid bin Ruman said: I was present with Ibn al-Zubayr when he demolished it, and the foundations of the Ka'bah appeared like the humps of Bactrian camels, interlocked with one another. Jarir said: I asked Yazid bin Ruman, while I was performing tawaf with him at that time, to show me the part which they had taken out (of the Ka'bah) and left in the Hatim. He said: "I will show it to you now." When he reached it, he said: "This is the place." The narrator said: I estimated it to be about six cubits.
This hadith is sahih (authentic) on the condition of the two Shaykhs (Bukhari and Muslim), but they did not record it in this way.

Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Note / Clarification: "al-mutalahikah" means something joined together and interlocking.
Technical note: The one who says "my father said" (qala abi) is Wahb bin Jarir, who narrates from his father Jarir bin Hazim; apparently, for the author (al-Hakim), the wording of Yazid bin Harun's hadith got mixed up with the hadith of Wahb bin Jarir.
Grading: Its chain is sahih. Reference / Source: It was narrated by Ibn Hibban (3816) with the chain Wahb bin Jarir from Jarir bin Hazim. Reference / Source: It was narrated by Ahmad, Muslim (1333), Ibn Hibban and al-Nasa'i through Sa'id bin Mina' and 'Ata', from Ibn al-Zubayr (may Allah be pleased with him). Variation in the chain: Contrary to al-Harith bin Abi Usamah, a group narrated it from Yazid bin Harun, but they placed it in the narrations of 'Urwah bin al-Zubayr from 'A'ishah (may Allah be pleased with her) instead of 'Abdullah bin al-Zubayr (may Allah be pleased with him). Important point / Summary: According to Ibn Khuzaymah and al-Bayhaqi, Yazid bin Ruman may have heard it from both 'Abdullah and 'Urwah, but in the view of al-Hafiz Ibn Hajar the narration of the group ('Urwah from 'A'ishah) is more correct, while al-Daraqutni judged the chain with "'Abdullah bin al-Zubayr" to be correct. Reference / Source: It was narrated by Ahmad (40/24297), al-Bukhari (1585), Muslim and al-Nasa'i through Hisham bin 'Urwah, from his father, from 'A'ishah (may Allah be pleased with her). (24297). Corroborating chains and supporting reports: This hadith is reported from 'A'ishah (may Allah be pleased with her) through several other routes, the details of which are in the takhrij of Musnad Ahmad (24297).
