حدثنا أبو العباس محمد بن يعقوب، حدثنا أحمد بن عبد الجبار، حدثنا يونس بن بُكَير، حدثنا محمد بن إسحاق. وأخبرنا أحمد بن جعفر القَطِيعيُّ، حدثنا عبد الله بن أحمد بن حنبل، حدثني أبي، حدثنا يعقوب بن إبراهيم، حدثني أبي، عن ابن إسحاق، حدثني يزيد بن أبي حَبِيب المِصْري، عن خالد بن أبي عِمْران، عن أبي عيّاش، عن جابر بن عبد الله الأنصاري: أنَّ رسولَ الله ﷺ ذَبَحَ يومَ العيد كَبشَين، ثم قال حين وَجَّهَهما: " ﴿إِنِّي وَجَّهْتُ وَجْهِيَ لِلَّذِي فَطَرَ السَّمَاوَاتِ وَالْأَرْضَ حَنِيفًا وَمَا أَنَا مِنَ الْمُشْرِكِينَ﴾ [الأنعام: 79]، ﴿إِنَّ صَلَاتِي وَنُسُكِي وَمَحْيَايَ وَمَمَاتِي لِلَّهِ رَبِّ الْعَالَمِينَ (162) لَا شَرِيكَ لَهُ وَبِذَلِكَ أُمِرْتُ وَأَنَا أَوَّلُ الْمُسْلِمِينَ﴾ [الأنعام: 162، 163]، باسمِ الله، واللهُ أكبرُ، اللهمَّ منكَ ولكَ عن محمدٍ وأُمّتِه" (1).

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Jabir bin Abdullah al-Ansari (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) sacrificed two rams on the day of Eid, and when he laid them facing the qiblah he said: "I have turned my face towards the One who created the heavens and the earth, inclining to the truth, and I am not of the polytheists [Al-An'am: 79]. Indeed, my prayer, my sacrifice, my living and my dying are for Allah, Lord of the worlds. He has no partner; with this I have been commanded, and I am the first of those who submit [Al-An'am: 162, 163]. 'Bismillah, wallahu akbar, Allahumma minka wa laka 'an Muhammadin wa ummatihi' (In the name of Allah, and Allah is the Greatest. O Allah, this is from You and for You, on behalf of Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) and his ummah)."
This hadith is sahih (authentic) on the condition of Imam Muslim, but the two Shaykhs did not record it.

(1) إسناده محتمل للتحسين، أبو عياش - وهو ابن النعمان المعافري المصري - روى عنه ثلاثة، ولم يؤثر توثيقه عن أحد، لكن صحَّح حديثه هذا ابن خزيمة والمصنِّف. يعقوب بن ¤ ¤ إبراهيم: هو ابن سعد الزهري.
Grading: This chain may be declared "hasan". Three narrators narrated from Abu 'Ayyash al-Misri; although no explicit declaration of his trustworthiness has been found, Ibn Khuzaymah and al-Hakim declared this hadith of his sahih.

وأخرجه الدارمي (1989)، والطحاوي 4/ 177، والبيهقي 9/ 287 من طريق أحمد بن خالد، وأبو داود (2795)، والبيهقي 9/ 287 من طريق عيسى بن يونس، وابن ماجه (3121) من طريق إسماعيل بن عياش، والمزي في ترجمة أبي عياش من "تهذيب الكمال" 34/ 163 - 164 من طريق يزيد بن زريع، أربعتهم عن محمد بن إسحاق، عن يزيد بن أبي حبيب، عن أبي عياش، به. بإسقاط خالد بن أبي عمران.
Reference / Source: Al-Darimi, al-Tahawi, al-Bayhaqi, Abu Dawud (2795) and Ibn Majah (3121) narrated it through various routes via Muhammad bin Ishaq, but all of them dropped (omitted) the link of Khalid bin Abi 'Imran.
وتفرَّد عيسى بنُ يونس من بين أصحاب ابن إسحاق الخمسة بزيادة "مَوجِيَّين" (يعني مخصيَّين)، وهي زيادة شاذَّة. وقد جاءت هذه الزيادة أيضًا في حديث عبد الله بن محمد بن عقيل فيما سيأتي برقم (7738)، وإسناده ضعيف لاضطرابه.
Defect / Technical note: Of Ibn Ishaq's five students, only 'Isa bin Yunus added the word "castrated" (mawjiyyayn), which is a "shadh" (unreliable) addition. The same addition will also come later at number (7738), but that chain is mudtarib (inconsistent) and weak.
وسيأتي حديث جابر من طريق آخر عند المصنف برقم (7744) بدون ذكر الآيات.
Repetition: The hadith of Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) will come later at number (7744) without mention of the verses.
وفي باب أضحيّة النبي ﷺ عنه وعن أمّته، انظر أحاديث حذيفة بن أَسيد وعائشة - أو أبي هريرة - وأبي سعيد وأبي رافع الآتية عند المصنف على التوالي بالأرقام (6665) و (7738) و (7740) و (7745)، وليس في شيء منها ذكر الآيات.
Corroborating chains and supporting reports: On the topic of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) sacrificing on behalf of his Ummah, the hadiths of Hudhayfah bin Asid, 'A'ishah (may Allah be pleased with her) or Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him), Abu Sa'id and Abu Rafi' will come later, but none of them mentions reciting the Qur'anic verses.
