حِلَّةُ لَحْمِ الصَّيْدِ لِلْمُحْرِمِ مَا لَمْ يَصِدْهُ أَوْ يُصَادَ لَهُ
The meat of game is lawful for the one in ihram as long as he did not hunt it and it was not hunted for him

أخبرَناه أبو زكريا يحيى بن محمد العَنبَري، حدثنا محمد بن عبد السلام، حدثنا إسحاق بن إبراهيم، أخبرنا وكيع، عن جَرِير بن حازم، عن عبد الله بن عُبيد بن عُمير، عن عبد الرحمن بن أبي عمَّار، عن جابر بن عبد الله قال: جَعَلَ رسولُ الله ﷺ في الضَّبُع يُصيبُه المُحرِمُ كَبْشًا نجديًّا، وجَعَلَه من الصَّيد (2).
Sayyiduna Jabir bin Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him) relates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) ruled that a person in ihram who kills a hyena (dabu') must give a Najdi ram as compensation, and he declared it to be game.

(2) إسناده صحيح. محمد بن عبد السلام: هو النيسابوري الوراق، وإسحاق بن إبراهيم: هو ¤ ¤ابن راهويه، ووكيع: هو ابن الجراح.
Grading: Its chain is sahih. Muhammad bin Abd al-Salam al-Naysaburi, Ishaq bin Rahawayh and Waki' bin al-Jarrah are among its narrators.
وأخرجه ابن ماجه (3085) عن علي بن محمد، عن وكيع بهذا الإسناد.
Reference / Source: Ibn Majah (3085) narrated it from 'Ali bin Muhammad from Waki' with this same chain.
وأخرج أبو داود (3801) عن محمد بن عبد الله الخزاعي، وابن حبان (3964) من طريق عبد الله بن المبارك، كلاهما عن جرير بن حازم، به إلى جابر بن عبد الله قال: سئل رسول الله ﷺ عن الضبع فقال: "هي صيد وفيها كبش". لفظ ابن المبارك، ولفظ الخزاعي: قال: سألت رسول الله ﷺ عن الضبع فقال: "هو صيد، ويُجعل فيه كبش إذا صاده المحرم".
Reference / Source: Abu Dawud (3801) and Ibn Hibban narrated it by way of Jarir bin Hazim that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) was asked about the hyena, and he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "It is game, and (its compensation) is a ram."
Grading: Its chain is sahih. Muhammad bin Abd al-Salam al-Naysaburi, Ishaq bin Rahawayh and Waki' bin al-Jarrah are among its narrators.
