Mustadrak al-Hakim — Hadith 166

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that a man came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and said: Give me counsel. He ((peace and blessings be upon him)) said: "Worship Allah and do not associate anything with Him, establish the prayer, give the zakah, fast the month of Ramadan, perform Hajj and Umrah, and listen and obey (the ruler)."
This hadith is sahih on the condition of the two Shaykhs, since all of its narrators are trustworthy, yet they did not record it out of caution.

Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Note / Clarification: In manuscript (S) and the printed book the wording is: "and perform Hajj to the House and Umrah".

Technical note / Defect ('illah): All its narrators are thiqah except Sa'id bin Abd al-Rahman al-Jumahi, who, although a narrator of Muslim, is prone to errors. He erred in narrating this as "marfu'", whereas trustworthy narrators such as Muhammad bin Bishr al-Abdi narrated it as "mawquf" upon Umar (may Allah be pleased with him).
Important point: Al-Bukhari and Ibn Hibban declared the mawquf narration to be the correct one; indeed Ibn Hibban called al-Jumahi's narration "a gross error".
Reference / Source: Al-Bayhaqi narrated it in "Shu'ab al-Iman" (3690) via Ali bin al-Mu'ammal, through the chain of Muhammad bin Ayyub bin al-Durays.
Reference / Source: Ibn Abi Asim (1070) and al-Tahawi (2658) narrated it through the route of Muhammad bin al-Sabbah al-Dulabi. Al-Bukhari also mentioned it in "al-Tarikh al-Kabir" in mu'allaq form (without a connected chain).
