Mustadrak al-Hakim — Hadith 155

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Amr (may Allah be pleased with them both) that a Bedouin came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), wearing a cloak of tayalisah (a kind of shawl) whose collar or buttons were trimmed with dibaj (silk brocade). He said: This companion of yours (the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him)) wants to raise up every shepherd and son of a shepherd and bring down every horseman and son of a horseman. So the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) stood up in anger, took hold of his garment, gave it a tug and said: "Do I not see on you the clothing of those who have no sense?" Then the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) came back, sat down and said: "When the time of death approached Nuh (peace be upon him), he called his two sons and said: I am giving you my final counsel. I command you to do two things and forbid you from two things. I forbid you from shirk (associating partners with Allah) and arrogance, and I command you to say 'La ilaha illallah' (There is no god but Allah), for if all the heavens and the earth and whatever is in them were placed in one pan of the scale, and 'La ilaha illallah' were placed in the other pan, this pan would outweigh them all; and if all the heavens and the earth became a closed ring and 'La ilaha illallah' were placed upon them, this word would break them apart. And I command you to say 'Subhan Allahi wa bihamdihi' (Glory be to Allah and praise be to Him), for it is the glorification of everything, and through it everything is given its provision."
This hadith has an authentic chain (sahih al-isnad), but the two of them (Bukhari and Muslim) did not record from al-Sa'qab bin Zuhayr, because although he is trustworthy, his narrations are few.
