Hisham bin Ishaq bin Abdullah bin Kinanah narrates from his father, who said: One of the governors sent me to Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) to ask about the prayer for rain. Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) said: "What prevented him from asking me himself? The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) went out in utmost humility, in plain clothing, with humble devotion, earnestly supplicating and walking slowly. Then he (peace and blessings be upon him) led two rak'ahs just as he (peace and blessings be upon him) used to lead them at Eid, and he (peace and blessings be upon him) did not deliver a sermon like this sermon of yours."

Hadith Takhrij«
Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Grading: (1) Like the previous narration, the chain is "hasan". Reference / Source: Ahmad (3/2029 and elsewhere), Ibn Majah (1266), al-Tirmidhi (559) and al-Nasa'i narrated it through Waki' with this same chain. Reference / Source: Al-Nasa'i (1839) and Ibn Hibban (2862) narrated it through chains from Sufyan al-Thawri.
(Note / Clarification): "Mutarassilan": that is, speaking or walking slowly and calmly.
(Note / Clarification): He (peace and blessings be upon him) did not deliver "a sermon like yours"; according to al-Zayla'i, this means there were not two sermons as on Friday but only one sermon, which is supported by the hadith of 'A'ishah (no. 1240).
