It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu al-Darda (may Allah be pleased with him), who traces it back to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), that he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Whoever comes to his bed intending to get up at night and pray, but his eyes overcome him until morning comes, what he intended will be written for him, and his sleep will be a charity to him from his Lord."
This hadith is sahih (authentic) on the condition of the two Shaykhs (Bukhari and Muslim), but they did not record it; and in my view, they regarded it as defective because it is also narrated from Za'idah as mawquf (a statement of the Companion):

Hadith Takhrij«
Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Grading: (1) Its narrators are thiqah, but there is idtirab (inconsistency) in its chain, and there is disagreement over whether it is marfu' or mawquf. Imam al-Daraqutni held it to be sound as mawquf (the saying of a Companion). Technical note: Abu Kurayb refers to Muhammad bin al-'Ala', Za'idah refers to Ibn Qudamah, and Sulayman refers to al-A'mash. Reference / Source: Ibn Majah (1344) and al-Nasa'i (1463) narrated it through the chain of Harun bin 'Abdullah al-Hammal from al-Husayn bin 'Ali al-Ju'fi. Reference / Source: Ibn Hibban (2588) narrated it through the chain of Miskin bin Bukayr that Abu Dharr or Abu al-Darda' (the doubt is from Shu'bah) said that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Whoever intends to stand (in tahajjud) at night but sleeps through it, that sleep of his is a charity from Allah to him, and he will receive the reward of his intention". Technical note: For its further takhrij and the details of the variation in its chain, see our work on Sunan Ibn Majah. Repetition: It will come next through the chain of Mu'awiyah bin 'Amr from Za'idah as "mawquf" on Abu al-Darda' (his own saying).
