It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Sa'id al-Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him) that he said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Whoever sleeps through his witr or forgets it, let him pray it when he wakes in the morning or when he remembers it."
This hadith is sahih (authentic) on the condition of the two Shaykhs (Bukhari and Muslim), but they did not record it.
Grading: (1) Its chain is sahih. Reference / Source: Abu Dawud (1431) narrated it through the chain of Muhammad bin Awf, and Ahmad, Ibn Majah and al-Tirmidhi (465) through the route of Abd al-Rahman bin Zayd bin Aslam. Grading: Imam al-Tirmidhi narrated it as "mursal" via Abd Allah bin Zayd bin Aslam and declared that more authentic. Technical note: Imam Ahmad rated Abd Allah bin Zayd as acceptable, whereas his brother Abd al-Rahman has been declared weak. Corroborating chains and supporting reports: Abd al-Rahman bin Zayd is not alone in this; rather, the thiqah narrator Muhammad bin Mutarrif (Abu Ghassan) corroborated him in al-Hakim's narration.
