Hadith 12938
(حديث مرفوع) حَدَّثَنَا إِسْمَاعِيلُ ، حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الْعَزِيزِ ، عَنْ أَنَسٍ ، قَالَ : مَرُّوا بِجِنَازَةٍ فَأَثْنَوْا عَلَيْهَا خَيْرًا ، فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " وَجَبَتْ ، وَجَبَتْ ، وَجَبَتْ " وَمَرُّوا بِجَنَازَةٍ فَأَثْنَوْا عَلَيْهَا شَرًّا ، فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " وَجَبَتْ ، وَجَبَتْ ، وَجَبَتْ " فَقَالَ عُمَرُ فِدَاكَ أَبِي وَأُمِّي ، مُرَّ بِجَنَازَةٍ فَأُثْنِيَ عَلَيْهَا خَيْرًا ، فَقُلْتَ : " وَجَبَتْ ، وَجَبَتْ ، وَجَبَتْ " وَمُرَّ بِجَنَازَةٍ ، فَأُثْنِيَ عَلَيْهَا شَرًّا ، فَقُلْتَ : " وَجَبَتْ ، وَجَبَتْ ، وَجَبَتْ " فَقَالَ : " مَنْ أَثْنَيْتُمْ عَلَيْهِ خَيْرًا ، وَجَبَتْ لَهُ الْجَنَّةُ ، وَمَنْ أَثْنَيْتُمْ عَلَيْهِ شَرًّا ، وَجَبَتْ لَهُ النَّارُ ، أَنْتُمْ شُهَدَاءُ اللَّهِ فِي الْأَرْضِ ، أَنْتُمْ شُهَدَاءُ اللَّهِ فِي الْأَرْضِ ، أَنْتُمْ شُهَدَاءُ اللَّهِ فِي الْأَرْضِ " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) that a funeral passed in front of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), and someone praised the deceased, and the people praised him. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said three times, "It has become obligatory." Then another funeral passed, and the people spoke ill of the deceased. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) again said three times, "It has become obligatory." Hazrat Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) said, "May my parents be sacrificed for you! When the first funeral passed and the people praised the deceased, you said three times, 'It has become obligatory,' and when the second funeral passed and the people spoke ill of the deceased, you again said three times, 'It has become obligatory'?" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "Whoever you praise, Paradise becomes obligatory for him, and whoever you speak ill of, Hell becomes obligatory for him." Then he said three times, "You are Allah's witnesses on earth."
Hadith 12939
(حديث مرفوع) حَدَّثَنَا يُونُسُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا حَمَّادٌ يَعْنِي ابْنَ زَيْدٍ ، عَنْ ثَابِتٍ ، عَنْ أَنَسٍ ، قَالَ : مُرَّ على رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم بِجِنَازَةٍ ، فَأَثْنَى الْقَوْمُ خَيْرًا ، فَقَالَ : " وَجَبَتْ " ثُمَّ مُرَّ بِجَنَازَةٍ أُخْرَى فَأُثْنِيَ عَلَيْهَا شَرًّا ، فَقَالَ : " وَجَبَتْ " فَقَالُوا : قُلْتَ لِهَذَا : " وَجَبَتْ " وَلِهَذَا " وَجَبَتْ " ؟ ! قَالَ : " شَهَادَةُ الْقَوْمِ ، وَالْمُؤْمِنُونَ شُهَدَاءُ اللَّهِ فِي الْأَرْضِ " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) that a funeral passed by in front of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "This is the testimony of the people, and the Muslims are Allah's witnesses on earth."
Hadith 12940
(حديث مرفوع) حَدَّثَنَا يُونُسُ ، حَدَّثَنَا حَمَّادٌ يَعْنِي ابْنَ زَيْدٍ ، عَنْ ثَابِتٍ ، وَعَبْدِ الْعَزِيزِ بْنِ صُهَيْبٍ ، عَنْ أَنَسٍ ، قَالَ : صَلَّى رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ الصُّبْحَ بِغَلَسٍ ، ثُمَّ قَالَ : " اللَّهُ أَكْبَرُ ، خَرِبَتْ خَيْبَرُ ، إِنَّا إِذَا نَزَلْنَا بِسَاحَةِ قَوْمٍ ، فَسَاءَ صَبَاحُ الْمُنْذَرِينَ " قَالَ : فَخَرَجُوا يَسْعَوْنَ فِي السِّكَكِ ، وَهُمْ يَقُولُونَ : مُحَمَّدٌ وَالْخَمِيسُ ، قَالَ : فَظَهَرَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ عَلَيْهِمْ فَقَتَلَ مُقَاتِلَتَهُمْ ، وَسَبَى ذَرَارِيَّهُمْ ، وَصَارَتْ صَفِيَّةُ لِدِحْيَةَ الْكَلْبِيِّ ، ثُمَّ صَارَتْ إِلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ بَعْدُ ، فَتَزَوَّجَهَا وَجَعَلَ صَدَاقَهَا عِتْقَهَا ، قَالَ : فَقَالَ لَهُ عَبْدُ الْعَزِيزِ بْنُ صُهَيْبٍ : يَا أَبَا مُحَمَّدٍ ، أَنْتَ سَأَلْتَ أَنَسًا مَا أَمْهَرَهَا ؟ فَقَالَ لَكَ أَنَسٌ : أَمْهَرَهَا نَفْسَهَا ؟ فَضَحِكَ ثَابِتٌ ، وَقَالَ : نَعَمْ .
It is narrated from Hazrat Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) offered the Fajr prayer at Khyber in the darkness of early morning, and after saying Allahu Akbar, he said: "Khyber is destroyed! When we descend into the courtyard of a people, then the morning of those who have been warned is the worst." At that time, the people had come out for their work. They began to say, "Muhammad and his army have arrived." Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) conquered Khyber, killed their fighting men, and took their children as captives. Hazrat Safiyyah (may Allah be pleased with her) came into the share of Hazrat Dihyah (may Allah be pleased with him), but later she came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) set her free and married her, and her freedom was considered her dowry.
Hadith 12941
(حديث مرفوع) حَدَّثَنَا يُونُسُ ، حَدَّثَنَا حَمَّادٌ يَعْنِي ابْنَ زَيْدٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الْعَزِيزِ بْنُ صُهَيْبٍ ، عَنْ أَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ ، أَنّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ اتَّخَذَ خَاتَمًا مِنْ فِضَّةٍ ، وَنَقَشَ فِيهِ مُحَمَّدٌ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ، فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " إِنِّي قَدْ اتَّخَذْتُ خَاتَمًا مِنْ فِضَّةٍ ، وَنَقَشْتُ فِيهِ مُحَمَّدٌ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ، فَلَا تَنْقُشُوا عَلَيْهِ " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) that once the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) had a ring made of silver for himself and said: We have had a ring made and have engraved on it the inscription "Muhammad Rasul Allah" (Muhammad, the Messenger of Allah), therefore no one should engrave this inscription on his ring.
Hadith 12942
(حديث مرفوع) حَدَّثَنَا يُونُسُ ، حَدَّثَنَا حَمَّادٌ يَعْنِي ابْنَ زَيْدٍ ، عَنْ عَبْدِ الْعَزِيزِ ابن صُهَيب ، عَنْ أَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ قَالَ : " نَهَى رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ الرِّجَالَ عَنِ الْمُزَعْفَرِ " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) forbade men from applying the fragrance of saffron.
Hadith 12943
(حديث مرفوع) حَدَّثَنَا زَيْدُ بْنُ يَحْيَى الدِّمَشْقِيُّ ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو مُعِيدٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا مَكْحُولٌ ، عَنْ أَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ ، قَالَ : قِيلَ : يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ، مَتَى نَدَعُ الِائْتِمَارَ بِالْمَعْرُوفِ ، وَالنَّهْيَ عَنِ الْمُنْكَرِ ؟ قَالَ : " إِذَا ظَهَرَ فِيكُمْ مَا ظَهَرَ فِي بَنِي إِسْرَائِيلَ إِذَا كَانَتْ الْفَاحِشَةُ فِي كِبَارِكُمْ ، وَالْمُلْكُ فِي صِغَارِكُمْ ، وَالْعِلْمُ فِي رُذَالِكُمْ " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) that a person submitted in the court of the Prophet, "O Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)! When will we abandon enjoining good and forbidding evil?" He replied, "When those things appear among you which had appeared among the Children of Israel: when indecency becomes prevalent among your elders, authority is given to the young, and knowledge is in the hands of the lowly."
Hadith 12944
(حديث مرفوع) حَدَّثَنَا حَجَّاجٌ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ ، عَنْ ثَابِتٍ الْبُنَانِيِّ ، عَنْ أَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ ، أَنّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ " كَانَ فِي الْمَسِيرِ ، وَكَانَ حَادٍ يَحْدُو بِنِسَائِهِ أَوْ سَائِقٌ قَالَ : فَكَانَ نِسَاؤُهُ يَتَقَدَّمْنَ بَيْنَ يَدَيْهِ ، فَقَالَ : " يَا أَنْجَشَةُ ، وَيْحَكَ ارْفُقْ بِالْقَوَارِيرِ " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) that once the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was on a journey and the camel driver was urging on the mounts of the Mothers of the Believers. He began to drive the animals quickly, upon which the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said with a smile, "Anjasha! Be gentle with the glass vessels."
Hadith 12945
(حديث مرفوع) حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الْأَعْلَى بْنُ عَبْدِ الْأَعْلَى ، حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ أَبِي إِسْحَاقَ ، عَنِ أَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ ، قَالَ : خَرَجْنَا مَعَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ مِنَ الْمَدِينَةِ ، فَجَعَلَ يُصَلِّي رَكْعَتَيْنِ رَكْعَتَيْنِ ، حَتَّى رَجَعَ ، قَالَ يَحْيَى : فَقُلْتُ : لِأَنَسٍ : كَمْ أَقَامَ ؟ قَالَ : عَشْرًا .
It is narrated from Hazrat Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) that once we went out from Madinah Munawwarah with the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) continued to perform two rak'ahs (for prayers) until the return. The narrator says that I asked Hazrat Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) how many days did the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) stay during this journey? He replied: ten days.
Hadith 12946
(حديث مرفوع) حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الْأَعْلَى ، عَنْ يَحْيَى ، عَنْ أَنَسٍ ، قَالَ : خَرَجْنَا مَعَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ إِلَى مَكَّةَ ، فَسَمِعْتُهُ يَقُولُ : " لَبَّيْكَ عُمْرَةً وَحَجَّةً " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) that we set out for Makkah Mukarramah with the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him). I heard the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) reciting the Talbiyah for Hajj and Umrah together, as he (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) was saying: "Labbaik Umrah wa Hajjan."
Hadith 12947
(حديث مرفوع) عَنْ عَبْدِ الْأَعْلَى ، عن يَحْيَى بْنُ أَبِي إِسْحَاقَ ، عَنْ أَنَسٍ ، قَالَ : أَقْبَلْنَا مِنْ خَيْبَرَ أَنَا وَأَبُو طَلْحَةَ وَرَسُولُ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم وصفية رديفته ، قَالَ : فَعَثَرَتْ نَاقَةُ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، فَصُرِعَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، وَصُرِعَتْ صَفِيَّةُ ، قَالَ : فَاقْتَحَمَ أَبُو طَلْحَةَ فَقَالَ : يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ، جَعَلَنِي اللَّهُ فِدَاكَ قَالَ : أَشُكُّ قَالَ : ذَاكَ أَمْ لَا أَضُرِرْتَ ؟ قَالَ : " لَا ، عَلَيْكَ الْمَرْأَةَ " قَالَ : فَأَلْقَى أَبُو طَلْحَةَ عَلَى وَجْهِهِ الثَّوْبَ ، فَانْطَلَقَ إِلَيْهَا فَمَدَّ ثَوْبَهُ عَلَيْهَا ، ثُمَّ أَصْلَحَ لَهَا رَحْلَهَا ، فَرَكِبْنَا ، ثُمَّ اكْتَنَفْنَاهُ ، أَحَدُنَا عَنْ يَمِينِهِ وَالْآخَرُ عَنْ شِمَالِهِ ، فَلَمَّا أَشْرَفْنَا عَلَى الْمَدِينَةِ ، أَوْ كُنَّا بِظَهْرِ الْحَرَّةِ ، قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " آيِبُونَ ، تَائِبُونَ ، عَابِدُونَ ، لِرَبِّنَا حَامِدُونَ " فَلَمْ يَزَلْ يَقُولُهُنَّ حَتَّى دَخَلْنَا الْمَدِينَةَ .
It is narrated from Hazrat Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) that I and Hazrat Abu Talha (may Allah be pleased with him) were returning from Khaybar. Hazrat Safiyyah (may Allah be pleased with her) was riding behind the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). At one place, the camel of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) slipped, and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and Hazrat Safiyyah (may Allah be pleased with her) fell down. Hazrat Abu Talha (may Allah be pleased with him) quickly reached there and said, "O Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)! May Allah sacrifice me for you, have you been hurt?" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) replied, "No, take care of the lady." So Hazrat Abu Talha (may Allah be pleased with him) covered his face with a cloth and went to her and covered Hazrat Safiyyah (may Allah be pleased with her) with a cloth. After that, the ride was prepared again, then all of us mounted, and one of us surrounded her from the right side and the other from the left side. When we reached near Madinah Munawwarah or on the rocky outskirts, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: (آيِبُونَ عَابِدُونَ تَائِبُونَ لِرَبِّنَا حَامِدُونَ) "We are returning, worshipping, repenting, and praising our Lord." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) kept repeating these words until we entered Madinah Munawwarah.
Hadith 12948
(حديث موقوف) حَدَّثَنَا حَدَّثَنَا رَوْحُ بْنُ عُبَادَةَ ، حَدَّثَنَا حَجَّاجُ بْنُ حَسَّانَ ، قَالَ : كُنَّا عِنْدَ أَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ ، فَدَعَا بِإِنَاءٍ وَفِيهِ ثَلَاثُ ضِبَابٍ حَدِيدٍ ، وَحَلْقَةٌ مِنْ حَدِيدٍ ، فَأُخْرِجَ مِنْ غِلَافٍ أَسْوَدَ ، وَهُوَ دُونَ الرُّبُعِ وَفَوْقَ نِصْفِ الرُّبُعِ ، فَأَمَرَ أَنَسُ بْنُ مَالِكٍ فَجُعِلَ لَنَا فِيهِ مَاءٌ ، فَأُتِينَا بِهِ فَشَرِبْنَا وَصَبَبْنَا عَلَى رُءُوسِنَا وَوُجُوهِنَا ، وَصَلَّيْنَا عَلَى النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ " .
Hajjaj bin Hassan (may Allah have mercy on him) says that once we were sitting with Hazrat Anas (may Allah be pleased with him), when he called for a vessel in which there were three pieces of iron and a ring attached to it. He took that vessel out from a black covering, which was less than a quarter and a little more than a half. At the order of Hazrat Anas (may Allah be pleased with him), water was poured into it for us. We drank that water and poured it over our heads and faces, and sent blessings and peace upon the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him).
Hadith 12949
(حديث مرفوع) حَدَّثَنَا عُبَيْدَةُ ، عَنْ حُمَيْدٍ الطَّوِيلِ ، قَالَ : سُئِلَ أَنَسُ بْنُ مَالِكٍ عَنْ رَفْعِ الْأَيْدِي ، فَقَالَ : قَامَ إِلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَوْمَ الْجُمُعَةِ بَعْضُ الْمُسْلِمِينَ ، فَقَالَ : يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ، قَحَطَ الْمَطَرُ ، وَأَجْدَبَتْ الْأَرْضُ ، هَلَكَ الْمَالُ ، قَالَ : فَاسْتَسْقَى ، فَرَفَعَ يَدَيْهِ حَتَّى رَأَيْتُ بَيَاضَ إِبْطَيْهِ ، وَمَا نَرَى فِي السَّمَاءِ سَحَابَةً ، فَقَامَ فَصَلَّى حَتَّى جَعَلَ يَهُمُّ الْقَرِيبُ الدَّارِ الرُّجُوعَ إِلَى أَهْلِهِ مِنْ شِدَّةِ الْمَطَرِ ، قَالَ : فَمَكَثْنَا سَبْعًا ، فَلَمَّا كَانَتْ الْجُمُعَةُ ، قَالُوا : يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ، تَهَدَّمَتْ الْبُيُوتُ ، وَاحْتَبَسَ الرُّكْبَانُ ، قَالَ : فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " اللَّهُمَّ حَوَالَيْنَا وَلَا عَلَيْنَا " قَالَ : فَتَكَشَّفَتْ عَنِ الْمَدِينَةِ .
Humaid (may Allah have mercy on him) says that a person asked Hazrat Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) whether the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) used to raise his hands in supplication. He replied that once, on a Friday, people said to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him): "O Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)! The rain has stopped, the land has become dry, and the livestock are being destroyed." Upon hearing this, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) raised his hands so high that I could see the whiteness of his blessed armpits, and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) supplicated for rain. At the time when the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) raised his blessed hands, we could not see any clouds in the sky, but when the prayer was finished, the young men living in nearby houses had difficulty returning to their homes. When the next Friday came, people said: "O Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)! The buildings of the houses have collapsed and the riders have been forced to stop outside Madinah." Upon hearing this, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) supplicated to Allah: "O Allah! Let this rain fall around us, not upon us." Thus, the rain moved away from Madinah.
Hadith 12950
(حديث مرفوع) حَدَّثَنَا عُبَيْدَةُ بْنُ حُمَيْدٍ ، عَنْ حُمَيْدٍ الطَّوِيلِ ، عَنْ أَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ ، قَالَ : خَرَجَ نَبِيُّ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَتَلَقَّتْهُ الْأَنْصَارُ بَيْنَهُمْ ، فَقَالَ : " وَالَّذِي نَفْسُ مُحَمَّدٍ بِيَدِهِ ، إِنِّي لَأُحِبُّكُمْ ، إِنَّ الْأَنْصَارَ قَدْ قَضَوْا مَا عَلَيْهِمْ ، وَبَقِيَ الَّذِي عَلَيْكُمْ ، فَأَحْسِنُوا إِلَى مُحْسِنِهِمْ ، وَتَجَاوَزُوا عَنْ مُسِيئِهِمْ " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) that once the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) went out and met the Ansar. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "By Him in Whose hand is the life of Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him), I love you. Accept the good deeds of the Ansar and overlook and forgive their wrongdoers, for they have fulfilled their duty and their right remains."

(حديث مرفوع) حَدَّثَنَا عُبَيْدَةُ ، عَنْ حُمَيْدٍ الطَّوِيلِ ، عَنْ أَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ ، قَالَ : خَرَجَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فِي غَدَاةٍ قَرَّةٍ أَوْ بَارِدَةٍ فَإِذَا الْمُهَاجِرُونَ وَالْأَنْصَارُ يَحْفِرُونَ الْخَنْدَقَ ، فَقَالَ : " اللَّهُمَّ إِنَّ الْخَيْرَ خَيْرُ الْآخِرَهْ فَاغْفِرْ لِلْأَنْصَارِ وَالْمُهَاجِرَهْ " فَأَجَابُوهُ : نَحْنُ الَّذِينَ بَايَعُوا مُحَمَّدًا عَلَى الْجِهَادِ مَا بَقِينَا أَبَدًا .
It is narrated from Hazrat Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) went out on a cold day and saw that the Muhajireen and Ansar were digging the trench. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: O Allah! The real goodness is the goodness of the Hereafter, so forgive the Ansar and the Muhajireen. In response, the companions (may Allah be pleased with them) recited this verse: "We are the ones who pledged allegiance to Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) for jihad as long as we are alive."
Hadith 12952
(حديث مرفوع) حَدَّثَنَا عُبَيْدَةُ بْنُ حُمَيْدٍ ، عَنْ حُمَيْدٍ ، عَنْ أَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ ، قَالَ : أَعْطَى النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ مِنْ غَنَائِمِ حُنَيْنٍ عُيَيْنَةَ وَالْأَقْرَعَ وَغَيْرَهُمَا ، فَقَالَتْ الْأَنْصَارُ : أَيُعْطِي غَنَائِمَنَا مَنْ تَقْطُرُ سُيُوفُنَا مِنْ دِمَائِهِمْ أَوْ تَقْطُرُ دِمَاؤُهُمْ مِنْ سُيُوفِنَا ، فَبَلَغَ ذَلِكَ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَدَعَا الْأَنْصَارَ ، فَقَالَ : " يَا مَعْشَرَ الْأَنْصَارِ ، أَمَا تَرْضَوْنَ أَنْ يَذْهَبَ النَّاسُ بِالدُّنْيَا ، وَتَذْهَبُونَ بِمُحَمَّدٍ إِلَى دِيَارِكُمْ ؟ " قَالُوا : بَلَى يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ، قَالَ : " وَالَّذِي نَفْسُ مُحَمَّدٍ بِيَدِهِ ، لَوْ سَلَكَ النَّاسُ وَادِيًا ، وَسَلَكَتْ الْأَنْصَارُ شِعْبًا ، لَسَلَكْتُ شِعْبَ الْأَنْصَارِ ، الْأَنْصَارُ كَرِشِي وَعَيْبَتِي ، وَلَوْلَا الْهِجْرَةُ ، لَكُنْتُ امْرَأً مِنَ الْأَنْصَارِ " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) that on the occasion of the Battle of Hunayn, when Allah granted the spoils of Banu Hawazin to the Prophet (peace be upon him), and the Prophet (peace be upon him) began giving one hundred camels each to Uyaina, Aqra’, and others, some of the Ansar said, "May Allah forgive the Prophet (peace be upon him); he is giving to the Quraysh and ignoring us, while the drops of blood are still dripping from our swords." When the Prophet (peace be upon him) learned of this, he called the Ansari companions (may Allah be pleased with them) and said, "Are you not pleased that people go away with wealth and property, and you return home with the Messenger of Allah?" They replied, "Why not, O Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him)!" Then the Prophet (peace be upon him) said, "By Him in Whose hand is the life of Muhammad (peace be upon him), if people were to walk in one valley and the Ansar in another, I would choose the valley and mountain pass of the Ansar. The Ansar are my shield, and if there had been no migration, I would have been one of the Ansar."
Hadith 12953
(حديث مرفوع) حَدَّثَنَا عُبَيْدَةُ بْنُ حُمَيْدٍ ، عَنْ حُمَيْدٍ ، عَنْ أَنَسٍ ، قَالَ : جَاءَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ إِلَى أُمِّ سُلَيْمٍ ، فَقَرَّبَتْ إِلَيْهِ سَمْنًا وَتَمْرًا ، فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " أَعِيدُوا سَمْنَكُمْ فِي سِقَائِكُمْ ، وَتَمْرَكُمْ فِي وِعَائِكُمْ ، فَإِنِّي صَائِمٌ " ثُمَّ قَامَ ، فَصَلَّى فِي نَاحِيَةِ الْبَيْتِ ، فَصَلَّيْنَا بِصَلَاتِهِ ، ثُمَّ دَعَا لِأُمِّ سُلَيْمٍ وَأَهْلِهَا ، ثُمَّ قَالَتْ أُمُّ سُلَيْمٍ : يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ، إِنَّ لِي خُوَيْصَّةً ، قَالَ : " وَمَا هِيَ ؟ " قَالَتْ : أَنَسٌ : قَالَ : فَمَا تَرَكَ يَوْمَئِذٍ مِنْ خَيْرِ آخِرَةٍ وَلَا دُنْيَا إِلَّا دَعَا بِهِ ، مِنْ قَوْلِهِ : " اللَّهُمَّ ارْزُقْهُ مَالًا وَوَلَدًا ، وَبَارِكْ لَهُ فِيهِمْ " ، قَالَ : فَقَالَ أَنَسٌ : حَدَّثَتْنِي ابْنَتِي أَنَّهُ دُفِنَ مِنْ صُلْبِي عِشْرُونَ وَمِائَةٌ وَنَيِّفٌ ، وَإِنِّي لَمِنْ أَكْثَرِ الْأَنْصَارِ مَالًا .
It is narrated from Hazrat Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) that once the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) came to the house of Hazrat Umm Sulaim (may Allah be pleased with her). She presented dates and ghee before the Prophet (peace be upon him). The Prophet (peace be upon him) was fasting that day, so he said, "Put the dates in its container and the ghee in its bucket." Then, standing in a corner of the house, the Prophet (peace be upon him) offered two units of prayer, and we also prayed with him. Then the Prophet (peace be upon him) prayed for Hazrat Umm Sulaim (may Allah be pleased with her) and her family. Hazrat Umm Sulaim (may Allah be pleased with her) said, "O Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him)! I have a special thing as well." The Prophet (peace be upon him) asked, "What is that?" She replied, "Your servant Anas." Upon this, the Prophet (peace be upon him) did not leave out any good of this world and the Hereafter except that he asked it for me, and he said, "O Allah! Grant him wealth and children and bless him in them." He himself says that my daughter has told me that more than one hundred and twenty-four people from my progeny have died and been buried, and I am wealthier than all the Ansar.
Hadith 12954
(حديث مرفوع) حَدَّثَنَا عُبَيْدَةُ ، عَنْ حُمَيْدٍ الطَّوِيلِ ، عَنْ أَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ قَالَ : اسْتَشَارَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ مَخْرَجَهُ إِلَى بَدْرٍ ، فَأَشَارَ عَلَيْهِ أَبُو بَكْرٍ ، ثُمَّ اسْتَشَارَ عُمَرَ ، فَأَشَارَ عَلَيْهِ عُمَرُ ، ثُمَّ اسْتَشَارَهُمْ ، فَقَالَ بَعْضُ الْأَنْصَارِ : إِيَّاكُمْ يُرِيدُ نَبِيُّ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَا مَعْشَرَ الْأَنْصَارِ ، فَقَالَ قَائِلُ الْأَنْصَارِ : تَسْتَشِيرُنَا يَا نَبِيَّ اللَّهِ ؟ إِنَّا لَا نَقُولُ لَكَ كَمَا قَالَتْ بَنُو إِسْرَائِيلَ لِمُوسَى عَلَيْهِ السَّلَام : اذْهَبْ أَنْتَ وَرَبُّكَ فَقَاتِلَا ، إِنَّا هَا هُنَا قَاعِدُونَ ، وَلَكِنْ وَالَّذِي بَعَثَكَ بِالْحَقِّ ، لَوْ ضَرَبْتَ أَكْبَادَهَا إِلَى بَرْكٍ ، قَالَ ابْنُ أَبِي عَدِيٍّ : إِلَى بَرْكِ الْغِمَادِ لَاتَّبَعْنَاكَ " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) that when the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) set out towards Badr, he consulted the people. In response, Hazrat Siddiq Akbar (may Allah be pleased with him) gave a suggestion. Then, when he asked for advice again, Hazrat Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) gave his opinion. Seeing this, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) remained silent. An Ansari said that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) wants to consult you. Upon this, the Ansari companions (may Allah be pleased with them) said, "O Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)! By Allah! We will not say as the Children of Israel said to Hazrat Musa (peace be upon him): 'You and your Lord go and fight, we will sit here.' Rather, if you go as far as Bark al-Ghamad, striking the livers of camels, even then we will be with you."
Hadith 12955
(حديث مرفوع) حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ يَعْنِي الْأَنْصَارِيَّ ، حَدَّثَنَا حُمَيْدٌ ، عَنْ أَنَسٍ ، قَالَ : " سَمِعَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ نِدَاءَ صَبِيٍّ وَهُوَ فِي الصَّلَاةِ ، فَخَفَّفَ ، فَظَنَنَّا أَنَّهُ إِنَّمَا فَعَلَ ذَلِكَ رَحْمَةً لِلصَّبِيِّ ، إِذْ عَلِمَ أَنَّ أُمَّهُ مَعَهُ فِي الصَّلَاةِ " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) that once the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) heard the sound of a child crying while leading the prayer, so he shortened the prayer. We understood that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) had shortened the prayer because of the child's mother; this was an expression of his compassion for her.
Hadith 12956
(حديث مرفوع) حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ، حَدَّثَنَا حُمَيْدٌ ، عَنْ أَنَسٍ ، أَنَّهُ سُئِلَ هل اخْتَضَبَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ؟ قَالَ : " لَمْ يَشِنْهُ الشَّيْبُ " .
Humaid says that a person asked Hazrat Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) whether the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) used to apply dye (to his hair)? He replied that old age did not become apparent on the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him).
Hadith 12957
(حديث مرفوع) حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ، حَدَّثَنَا حُمَيْدٌ الطَّوِيلُ ، عَنْ أَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ ، أَنّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ كَانَ يَدْخُلُ عَلَى أُمِّ سُلَيْمٍ ، وَلَهَا ابْنٌ مِنْ أَبِي طَلْحَةَ يُكْنَى أَبَا عُمَيْرٍ ، وَكَانَ يُمَازِحُهُ ، فَدَخَلَ عَلَيْهِ ، فَرَآهُ حَزِينًا ، فَقَالَ : " مَا لِي أَرَى أَبَا عُمَيْرٍ حَزِينًا " فَقَالُوا : مَاتَ نُغَرُهُ الَّذِي كَانَ يَلْعَبُ بِهِ ، قَالَ : فَجَعَلَ يَقُولُ : أَبَا عُمَيْرٍ ، مَا فَعَلَ النُّغَيْرُ ؟ " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) that Hazrat Abu Talha (may Allah be pleased with him) had a son whose name was Abu Umair. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) used to joke with him. One day, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) saw him sad and said, "O Abu Umair! What happened to the Nughair (a bird that had died)?"
Hadith 12958
(حديث مرفوع) حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ، حَدَّثَنَا حُمَيْدٌ ، عَنْ أَنَسٍ ، أَنَّ أُمَّ سُلَيْمٍ وَلَدَتْ غُلَامًا مِنْ أَبِي طَلْحَةَ فَبَعَثَتْ بِهِ مَعَ ابْنِهَا أَنَسٍ إِلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، فَحَنَّكَهُ " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) that a child was born to Hazrat Abu Talha (may Allah be pleased with him) at the house of Hazrat Umm Sulaim (may Allah be pleased with her). She sent the child to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) with her son Anas, and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) performed tahneek for him.
Hadith 12959
(حديث مرفوع) حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ الْمُثَنَّى ، حَدَّثَنَا حُمَيْدٌ ، عَنْ أَنَسٍ ، قَالَ : رَأَى نُخَامَةً فِي قِبْلَةِ الْمَسْجِدِ ، فَشَقَّ عَلَيْهِ حَتَّى عُرِفَ ذَاكَ فِي وَجْهِهِ ، فَحَكَّهُ ، وَقَالَ : " إِنَّ أَحَدَكُمْ أَوْ الْمَرْءَ إِذَا قَامَ إِلَى الصَّلَاةِ ، فَإِنَّهُ يُنَاجِي رَبَّهُ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ أَوْ رَبَّهُ بَيْنَهُ وَبَيْنَ الْقِبْلَةِ فَلْيَبْزُقْ ، إِذَا بَزَقَ ، عَنْ يَسَارِهِ أَوْ تَحْتَ قَدَمِهِ " وَأَوْمَأَ هَكَذَا ، كَأَنَّهُ فِي ثَوْبِهِ ، قَالَ : وَكُنَّا نَقُولُ لِحُمَيْدٍ : فَيَقُولُ : سُبْحَانَ اللَّهِ ! مَنْ هُوَ ؟ يَعْنِي النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، وَلَا يَزِيدُنَا عَلَيْهِ .
It is narrated from Hazrat Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) that once the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) saw some spittle on the direction of the qiblah in the mosque. This thing was so hard on the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) that signs of displeasure became evident on his blessed face. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) cleaned it and said that when a person stands for prayer, he is conversing with his Lord, so he should spit to his left side or under his foot, and he indicated in such a way that he should take it in his cloth and rub it.
Hadith 12960
(حديث موقوف) (حديث مرفوع) ثُمَّ قَالَ : " إِذَا جَاءَ أَحَدُكُمْ إِلَى الصَّلَاةِ ، فَلْيَمْشِ عَلَى هِينَتِهِ ، فَلْيُصَلِّ مَا أَدْرَكَ ، وَيَقْضِ مَا سَبَقَهُ " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) that once the prayer had been established and a man came quickly, his breath was heavy, and upon reaching the row he said, "Alhamdulillah hamdan katheeran tayyiban mubaarakan feeh." After finishing the prayer, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) asked, "Who among you spoke?" He had said a good thing. So that man said, "O Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)! I spoke. I was coming quickly and when I reached near the row, I said this sentence." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "I saw twelve angels rushing towards it to see who would raise this sentence first." Then he said, "When any of you comes for prayer, he should walk calmly. Whatever part of the prayer he catches, he should perform, and whatever he misses, he should complete (afterwards)."
Hadith 12961
(حديث مرفوع) حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ، حَدَّثَنَا حُمَيْدٌ ، عَنْ أَنَسٍ ، قَالَ : نَادَى رَجُلٌ يَا أَبَا الْقَاسِمِ ، فَالْتَفَتَ إِلَيْهِ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، فَقَالَ : يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ، لَمْ أَعْنِكَ ، إِنَّمَا دَعَوْتُ فُلَانًا ، قَالَ : " تَسَمَّوْا بِاسْمِي ، وَلَا تَكَنَّوْا بِكُنْيَتِي " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) that once the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was in Jannat al-Baqi', when a man called out to someone by saying "Abul Qasim." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) turned around and looked back, so the man said, "I did not mean you." Upon this, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "You may name yourselves after my name, but do not take my kunya (Abul Qasim) as your kunya."
Hadith 12962
(حديث مرفوع) حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ، حَدَّثَنَا حُمَيْدٌ ، قَالَ : سُئِلَ أَنَسٌ هَلْ اتَّخَذَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ خَاتَمًا ؟ قَالَ : نَعَمْ ، أَخَّرَ لَيْلَةً صَلَاةَ الْعِشَاءِ الْآخِرَةِ إِلَى قُرْيبٍ مِنْ شَطْرِ اللَّيْلِ ، فَلَمَّا صَلَّى ، أَقْبَلَ عَلَيْنَا بِوَجْهِهِ ، فَقَالَ : " النَّاسُ قَدْ صَلَّوْا وَنَامُوا ، وَلَمْ تَزَالُوا فِي صَلَاةٍ مَا انْتَظَرْتُمُوهَا " ، قَالَ أَنَسٌ : كَأَنِّي أَنْظُرُ الْآنَ إِلَى وَبِيصِ خَاتَمِهِ .
Humaid says that a person asked Hazrat Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) whether the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) had a ring made. He replied, "Yes! Once the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) delayed the Isha prayer until midnight, and after the prayer he turned towards us and said, 'People have prayed and gone to sleep, but as long as you waited for the prayer, you were counted as being in prayer.' At that time, the whiteness of the Prophet's (peace and blessings be upon him) ring is still before my eyes."
Hadith 12963
(حديث مرفوع) حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ، حَدَّثَنَا حُمَيْدٌ ، عَنْ أَنَسٍ ، قَالَ : سُئِلَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ عَنْ وَقْتِ صَلَاةِ الْغَدَاةِ ، فَصَلَّى حِينَ طَلَعَ الْفَجْرُ ، ثُمَّ أَسْفَرَ بِهِمْ حَتَّى أَسْفَرَ ، فَقَالَ : " أَيْنَ السَّائِلُ عَنْ وَقْتِ صَلَاةِ الْغَدَاةِ ؟ " قَالَ : " مَا بَيْنَ هَذَيْنِ وَقْتٌ " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) that a person asked the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) about the time of Fajr. So the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) instructed Hazrat Bilal (may Allah be pleased with him) at the time of the rising of Fajr and the prayer was established. Then on the next day, he led the prayer when it was quite bright, and said: "Where is the one who asked about the time of Fajr prayer?" The time for Fajr prayer is between these two times.
Hadith 12964
(حديث موقوف) حَدَّثَنَا حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ، حَدَّثَنَا حُمَيْدٌ ، عَنْ أَنَسٍ ، قَالَ : " كُنَّا نُصَلِّي الْمَغْرِبَ ، ثُمَّ يَنْطَلِقُ الْمُنْطَلِقُ مِنَّا إِلَى بَنِي سَلِمَةَ ، وَهُوَ يَرَى مَوَاقِعَ نَبْلِهِ " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) that we used to perform the Maghrib prayer with the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), then one of us would go to the people of Banu Salamah, and at that time he could still clearly see the place where his arrow would fall.
Hadith 12965
(حديث مرفوع) حَدَّثَنَا إِسْمَاعِيلُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ ، عَنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ يَزِيدَ وَهُوَ أَبُو مسَلَمَةَ ، قَالَ : قُلْتُ لِأَنَسٍ : " أَصَلَّى النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فِي نَعْلَيْهِ ؟ قَالَ : نَعَمْ " .
Saeed bin Yazid, may Allah have mercy on him, says that once I asked Hazrat Anas, may Allah be pleased with him, whether the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, used to pray in his shoes? He replied, "Yes!"
Hadith 12966
(حديث مرفوع) حَدَّثَنَا إِسْمَاعِيلُ ، حَدَّثَنَا خَالِدٌ الْحَذَّاءُ ، عَنْ أَبِي قِلَابَةَ ، قَالَ : قَالَ أَنَسٌ : قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " إِنَّ لِكُلِّ أُمَّةٍ أَمِينًا ، وَإِنَّ أَمِينَنَا أَيُّتُهَا الْأُمَّةُ أَبُو عُبَيْدَةَ بْنُ الْجَرَّاحِ " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Every nation has a trustworthy one, and Abu Ubaidah is the trustworthy one of this nation."
Hadith 12967
(حديث مرفوع) حَدَّثَنَا إِسْمَاعِيلُ ، حَدَّثَنَا حُمَيْدٌ ، عَنْ أَنَسٍ ، أَنّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ " طَافَ عَلَى نِسَائِهِ فِي لَيْلَةٍ وَاحِدَةٍ بِغُسْلٍ وَاحِدٍ " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) would sometimes visit all his noble wives in a single night with only one bath.
Hadith 12968
(حديث مرفوع) حَدَّثَنَا إِسْمَاعِيلُ ، حَدَّثَنَا سَعِيدٌ ، عَنْ قَتَادَةَ ، عَنْ أَنَسٍ قَالَ : كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ " يُضَحِّي بِكَبْشَيْنِ أَقْرَنَيْنِ ، يَطَأُ عَلَى صِفَاحِهِمَا ، وَيَذْبَحُهُمَا بِيَدِهِ ، وَيُسَمِّي وَيُكَبِّرُ " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) used to offer two white, horned rams as sacrifice, and he would mention the name of Allah and say Takbeer. I saw that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) would slaughter them with his own hand and would place his foot on their side.
Hadith 12969
(حديث مرفوع) حَدَّثَنَا إِسْمَاعِيلُ ، عَنْ يَحْيَى بْنِ أَبِي إِسْحَاقَ ، قَالَ : قَالَ أَنَسٌ : أَقْبَلْتُ مَعَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَنَا وَأَبُو طَلْحَةَ ، وَصَفِيَّةُ رَدِيفَتُهُ عَلَى نَاقَتِهِ ، فَبَيْنَمَا نَحْنُ نَسِيرُ إِذْ عَثَرَتْ نَاقَةُ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، فَصُرِعَ وَصُرِعَتْ الْمَرْأَةُ ، فَاقْتَحَمَ أَبُو طَلْحَةَ عَنْ نَاقَتِهِ ، فَقَالَ : يَا نَبِيَّ اللَّهِ ، هَلْ ضَرَّكَ شَيْءٌ ؟ قَالَ : " لَا ، عَلَيْكَ بِالْمَرْأَةِ " فَأَلْقَى أَبُو طَلْحَةَ ثَوْبَهُ عَلَى وَجْهِهِ ، ثُمَّ قَصَدَ قَصْدَ الْمَرْأَةَ ، فَسَدَلَ الثَّوْبَ عَلَيْهَا ، فَقَامَتْ فَشَدَّ لَهُمَا عَلَى رَاحِلَتِهِمَا ، فَرَكِبَا ، وَرَكِبْنَا نَسِيرُ ، حَتَّى إِذَا كُنَّا بِظَهْرِ الْمَدِينَةِ قَالَ : " آيِبُونَ تَائِبُونَ ، لِرَبِّنَا حَامِدُونَ " قال : فَلَمْ يَزَلْ يَقُولُ ذَلِكَ حَتَّى قَدِمْنَا الْمَدِينَةَ .
It is narrated from Hazrat Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) that I and Hazrat Abu Talha (may Allah be pleased with him) were returning from Khaybar. Hazrat Safiyyah (may Allah be pleased with her) was riding behind the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). At one place, the camel of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) slipped, and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and Hazrat Safiyyah (may Allah be pleased with her) fell down. Hazrat Abu Talha (may Allah be pleased with him) quickly reached there and said, "O Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)! May Allah sacrifice me for you, have you been hurt?" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) replied, "No, take care of the lady." So Hazrat Abu Talha (may Allah be pleased with him) covered his face with a cloth and went to her and covered Hazrat Safiyyah (may Allah be pleased with her) with a cloth. After that, the ride was prepared again, then all of us mounted, and one of us surrounded her from the right side and the other from the left side. When we approached Madinah Munawwarah or reached the rocky areas behind it, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "We are returning while worshipping Allah, repenting, and praising our Lord." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) kept repeating these words until we entered Madinah Munawwarah.
Hadith 12970
(حديث مرفوع) حَدَّثَنَا إِسْمَاعِيلُ ، حَدَّثَنَا حُمَيْدٌ ، عَنْ أَنَسٍ ، أَنَّ عَبْدَ اللَّهِ بْنَ سَلَامٍ بَلَغَهُ مَقْدَمُ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ الْمَدِينَةَ ، فَأَتَاهُ فَسَأَلَهُ عَنْ أَشْيَاءَ ، قَالَ : إِنِّي سَائِلُكَ عَنْ أَشْيَاءَ لَا يَعْلَمُهَا إِلَّا نَبِيٌّ ، قَالَ : مَا أَوَّلُ أَشْرَاطِ السَّاعَةِ ؟ وَمَا أَوَّلُ طَعَامٍ يَأْكُلُهُ أَهْلُ الْجَنَّةِ ؟ وَمَا بَالُ الْوَلَدِ يَنْزِعُ إِلَى أَبِيهِ ، وَالْوَلَدِ يَنْزِعُ إِلَى أُمِّهِ ؟ قَالَ : " أَخْبَرَنِي بِهِنَّ جِبْرِيلُ آنِفًا " ، قَالَ ابْنُ سَلَامٍ فَذَلِكَ عَدُوُّ الْيَهُودِ مِنَ الْمَلَائِكَةِ ، قَالَ : " أَمَّا أَوَّلُ أَشْرَاطِ السَّاعَةِ ، فَنَارٌ تَحْشُرُهُمْ مِنَ الْمَشْرِقِ إِلَى الْمَغْرِبِ ، وَأَوَّلُ طَعَامٍ يَأْكُلُهُ أَهْلُ الْجَنَّةِ زِيَادَةُ كَبِدِ حُوتٍ ، وَأَمَّا الْوَلَدُ فَإِذَا سَبَقَ مَاءُ الرَّجُلِ مَاءَ الْمَرْأَةِ ، نَزَعَ الْوَلَدَ ، وَإِذَا سَبَقَ مَاءُ الْمَرْأَةِ مَاءَ الرَّجُلِ ، نَزَعَتْ الْوَلَدَ " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) that after the arrival of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) in Madinah Munawwarah, Hazrat Abdullah bin Salam (may Allah be pleased with him) came to the court of the Messenger and said, "O Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)! I will ask you three things which no one knows except a Prophet." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "Ask." He said, "What is the very first sign of the Day of Judgment? What will be the first food of the people of Paradise? And how does a child resemble its parents?" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "Just now, Jibreel Amin (peace be upon him) has informed me of their answers." Abdullah said, "He is the enemy of the Jews among the angels." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "The very first sign of the Day of Judgment will be a fire that will emerge from the East and gather all the people in the West. The first food of the people of Paradise will be the liver of fish. As for the resemblance of a child to its parents, if the man's 'fluid' prevails over the woman's fluid, the child is drawn towards him, and if the woman's fluid prevails over the man's, the child is drawn towards her."
Hadith 12971
(حديث مرفوع) حَدَّثَنَا إِسْمَاعِيلُ ، أَخْبَرَنَا خَالِدٌ ، عَنْ أَبِي قِلَابَةَ ، قال : قَالَ أَنَسٌ : " أُمِرَ بِلَالٌ أَنْ يَشْفَعَ الْأَذَانَ ، وَيُوتِرَ الْإِقَامَةَ " ، فَحَدَّثْتُ بِهِ أَيُّوبَ ، فَقَالَ : إِلَّا الْإِقَامَةَ .
It is narrated from Hazrat Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) that Hazrat Bilal (may Allah be pleased with him) was instructed to say the words of the adhan in even numbers and the words of the iqamah in odd numbers.
Hadith 12972
(حديث مرفوع) حَدَّثَنَا إِسْمَاعِيلُ ، أَخْبَرَنَا سُلَيْمَانُ التَّيْمِيُّ ، حَدَّثَنَا أَنَسُ بْنُ مَالِكٍ قَالَ : ذُكِرَ لِي أَنَّ نَبِيَّ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ ، وَلَمْ أَسْمَعْهُ مِنْهُ : " إِنَّ فِيكُمْ قَوْمًا يَعْبُدُونَ وَيَدْأَبُونَ يَعْنِي يُعْجِبُونَ النَّاسَ ، وَتُعْجِبُهُمْ أَنْفُسُهُمْ ، يَمْرُقُونَ مِنَ الدِّينِ كَمَا يَمْرُقُ السَّهْمُ مِنَ الرَّمِيَّةِ " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) that this statement of the Prophet (peace be upon him) was conveyed to me, but I did not hear it myself: "A people will come among you who will worship and be religious, to the extent that people will be amazed at their abundance of worship, and they themselves will fall into self-admiration. Those people will exit from the religion just as an arrow exits from the prey."
Hadith 12973
(حديث مرفوع) حَدَّثَنَا إِسْمَاعِيلُ ، حَدَّثَنَا سُلَيْمَانُ التَّيْمِيُّ ، حَدَّثَنَا أَنَسُ بْنُ مَالِكٍ ، قَالَ : إِنِّي لَقَائِمٌ عَلَى الْحَيِّ أَسْقِيهِمْ مِنْ فَضِيخٍ لَهُمْ ، إِذْ جَاءَ رَجُلٌ ، فَقَالَ : إِنَّهَا حُرِّمَتْ الْخَمْرُ ، فَقَالُوا : أَكْفِئْهَا يَا أَنَسُ ، فَأَكْفَأْتُهَا ، فَقُلْتُ لِأَنَسٍ : مَا هِيَ ؟ قَالَ : بُسْرٌ وَرُطَبٌ ، قَالَ : فَقَالَ أَبُو بَكْرِ ابْنُ أَنَسٍ كَانَتْ خَمْرَهُمْ يَوْمَئِذٍ " ، قَالَ : وَحَدَّثَنِي رَجُلٌ ، عَنْ أَنَسٍ أَنَّهُ قَالَ ذَلِكَ أَيْضًا .
It is narrated from Hazrat Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) that one day I was standing and serving people with Fasiqh (a type of drink), when a person came and said that alcohol has been declared forbidden. They said, "Anas! Pour out all the alcohol that is in your vessel." The narrator investigated about the drink from him, so he replied that it was only Nabidh made by mixing fresh and dried dates.
Hadith 12974
(حديث موقوف) حَدَّثَنَا حَدَّثَنَا إِسْمَاعِيلُ ، قَالَ : سَعِيدُ بْنُ يَزِيدَ أَخْبَرَنَا ، قَالَ : قُلْتُ لِأَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ " أَكَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَسْتَفْتِحُ الْقِرَاءَةَ ب ْبِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَنِ الرَّحِيمِ سورة الفاتحة آية 1 ، أَوْ بْ الْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ رَبِّ الْعَالَمِينَ سورة الفاتحة آية 2 ؟ فَقَالَ : إِنَّكَ لَتَسْأَلُنِي عَنْ شَيْءٍ مَا سَأَلَنِي عَنْهُ أَحَدٌ " .
Saeed bin Yazid, may Allah have mercy on him, says that I asked Hazrat Anas, may Allah be pleased with him, whether the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, used to begin the recitation with "Bismillah" or with "Alhamdulillah"? He replied, "You have asked me a question about which no one has asked me before."
Hadith 12975
(حديث مرفوع) حَدَّثَنَا إِسْمَاعِيلُ ، أَخْبَرَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ أَبِي إِسْحَاقَ ، قَالَ : سَأَلْتُ أَنَسَ بْنَ مَالِكٍ عَنْ قَصْرِ الصَّلَاةِ ، فَقَالَ : سَافَرْنَا مَعَ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ مِنَ الْمَدِينَةِ إِلَى مَكَّةَ ، فَصَلَّى بِنَا رَكْعَتَيْنِ حَتَّى رَجَعْنَا ، فَسَأَلْتُهُ هَلْ أَقَامَ ؟ فَقَالَ : نَعَمْ ، أَقَمْنَا بِمَكَّةَ عَشْرًا " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) that once we went out from Madinah Munawwarah with the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) continued to perform two rak'ahs (for prayers) until the return. The narrator says that I asked Hazrat Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) how many days did the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) stay during this journey? He replied: ten days.
Hadith 12976
(حديث مرفوع) حَدَّثَنَا إِسْمَاعِيلُ ، حَدَّثَنَا حُمَيْدٌ الطَّوِيلُ ، عَنْ أَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ ، قَالَ : لَمَّا قَدِمَ عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ عَوْفٍ الْمَدِينَةَ ، آخَى النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ بَيْنَهُ وَبَيْنَ سَعْدِ بْنِ الرَّبِيعِ ، فَقَالَ : أُقَاسِمُكَ مَالِي نِصْفَيْنِ ، وَلِي امْرَأَتَانِ ، فَأُطَلِّقُ إِحْدَاهُمَا ، فَإِذَا انْقَضَتْ عِدَّتُهَا فَتَزَوَّجْهَا ، فَقَالَ : بَارَكَ اللَّهُ لَكَ فِي أَهْلِكَ وَمَالِكَ ، دُلُّونِي عَلَى السُّوقِ ، فَدَلُّوهُ ، فَانْطَلَقَ ، فَمَا رَجَعَ إِلَّا وَمَعَهُ شَيْءٌ مِنْ أَقِطٍ وَسَمْنٍ قَدْ اسْتَفْضَلَهُ ، فَرَآهُ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ بَعْدَ ذَلِكَ وَعَلَيْهِ وَضَرٌ مِنْ صُفْرَةٍ ، فَقَالَ : " مَهْيَمْ ؟ " قَالَ : تَزَوَّجْتُ امْرَأَةً مِنَ الْأَنْصَارِ ، قَالَ : " مَا أَصْدَقْتَهَا ؟ " قَالَ : نَوَاةً مِنْ ذَهَبٍ ، قَالَ حُمَيْدٌ : أَوْ وَزْنَ نَوَاةٍ مِنْ ذَهَبٍ ، فَقَالَ : " أَوْلِمْ وَلَوْ بِشَاةٍ " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) that when Hazrat Abdur Rahman bin Auf (may Allah be pleased with him) came to Madinah Munawwarah, the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) established brotherhood between him and Hazrat Sa’d bin Rabi’ (may Allah be pleased with him). Hazrat Sa’d (may Allah be pleased with him) said, “I will divide all my wealth into two parts, and I have two wives; I will divorce one of them, and when her waiting period is over, you may marry her.” Hazrat Abdur Rahman (may Allah be pleased with him) replied, “May Allah bless your wealth and your family for you. Just show me the way to the market.” So he showed Hazrat Abdur Rahman bin Auf (may Allah be pleased with him) the way. He went, and when he returned, he had some cheese and ghee which he had saved as profit. After some time, the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) saw Hazrat Abdur Rahman bin Auf (may Allah be pleased with him) and there were yellow marks on him. The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) asked, “What are these marks?” He replied, “I have married an Ansari woman.” The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) asked, “How much dowry did you give?” He replied, “Gold equal to the weight of a date stone.” The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said, “Give a wedding feast, even if it is only with one goat.”

(حديث مرفوع) حَدَّثَنَا بَهْزُ بْنُ أَسَدٍ أَبُو الْأَسْوَدِ الْعَمِّيُّ ، حَدَّثَنَا حَمَّادُ بْنُ سَلَمَةَ ، أَخْبَرَنَا إِسْحَاقُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ أَبِي طَلْحَةَ ، عَنْ أَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ ، أَنَّ هَوَازِنَ جَاءَتْ يَوْمَ حُنَيْنٍ بِالصِّبْيَانِ وَالنِّسَاءِ ، وَالْإِبِلِ وَالنَّعَمِ ، فَجَعَلُوهُمْ صُفُوفًا ، يُكَثِّرُونَ عَلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، فَلَمَّا الْتَقَوْا وَلَّى الْمُسْلِمُونَ مُدْبِرِينَ ، كَمَا قَالَ اللَّهُ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ ، فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " يَا عِبَادَ اللَّهِ ، أَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ وَرَسُولُهُ ، يَا مَعْشَرَ الْأَنْصَارِ ، أَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ وَرَسُولُهُ " فَهَزَمَ اللَّهُ الْمُشْرِكِينَ قَالَ عَفَّانُ وَلَمْ يَضْرِبُوا بِسَيْفٍ وَلَمْ يَطْعَنُوا بِرُمْحٍ وَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَوْمَئِذٍ : " مَنْ قَتَلَ كَافِرًا ، فَلَهُ سَلَبُهُ " فَقَتَلَ أَبُو طَلْحَةَ يَوْمَئِذٍ عِشْرِينَ رَجُلًا ، وَأَخَذَ أَسْلَابَهُمْ ، قَالَ : وَقَالَ أَبُو قَتَادَةَ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ، ضَرَبْتُ رَجُلًا عَلَى حَبْلِ الْعَاتِقِ ، وَعَلَيْهِ دِرْعٌ ، فَأُجْهِضْتُ عَنْهُ ، فَانْظُرْ مَنْ أَخَذَهَا ، فَقَامَ رَجُلٌ ، فَقَالَ : أَنَا أَخَذْتُهَا ، فَأَرْضِهِ مِنْهَا ، وَأَعْطِنِيهَا ، قَالَ : وَكَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ لَا يُسْأَلُ شَيْئًا إِلَّا أَعْطَاهُ ، أَوْ سَكَتَ ، فَسَكَتَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، فَقَالَ عُمَرُ : لَا وَاللَّهِ ، لَا يُفِيئُهَا اللَّهُ عَلَى أَسَدٍ مِنْ أُسْدِهِ وَيُعْطِيكَهَا ، فَضَحِكَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَقَالَ : " صَدَقَ عُمَرُ " ، قَالَ : وَكَانَتْ أُمُّ سُلَيْمٍ مَعَهَا خِنْجَرٌ ، فَقَالَ أَبُو طَلْحَةَ مَا هَذَا مَعَكِ ؟ قَالَتْ : اتَّخَذْتُهُ إِنْ دَنَا مِنِّي بَعْضُ الْمُشْرِكِينَ أَنْ أَبْعَجَ بِهِ بَطْنَهُ ، فَقَالَ أَبُو طَلْحَةَ : يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ، أَلَا تَسْمَعُ مَا تَقُولُ أُمُّ سُلَيْمٍ ؟ ! قَالَتْ : يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ، اقْتُلْ مَنْ بَعْدَنَا مِنَ الطُّلَقَاءِ ، انْهَزَمُوا بِكَ ، قَالَ : " إِنَّ اللَّهَ قَدْ كَفَانَا وَأَحْسَنَ يَا أُمَّ سُلَيْمٍ " ، حَدَّثَنَا عَفَّانُ ، حَدَّثَنَا سُلَيْمُ بْنُ أَخْضَرَ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ عَوْنٍ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنِي هِشَامُ بْنُ زَيْدِ بْنِ أَنَسٍ ، عَنْ أَنَسٍ ، لَمَّا كَانَ يَوْمُ حُنَيْنٍ ، وَجَمَعَتْ هَوَازِنُ وَغَطَفَانُ لِرَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ جَمْعًا كَثِيرًا ، وَالنبيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فِي عَشْرَةِ آلَافٍ أَوْ أَكْثَرَ ، وَمَعَهُ الطُّلَقَاءُ ، فَجَاءُوا بِالنَّعَمِ وَالذُّرِّيَّةِ ، فَذَكَرَ الْحَدِيثَ .
It is narrated from Hazrat Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) that the people of Banu Hawazin brought children, women, camels, and goats with them in the Battle of Hunayn. They made all of them stand in different rows to show their large numbers. When the battle started, the Muslims turned their backs and fled, as Allah Almighty has mentioned. At this, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) called out to the Muslims, "O servants of Allah! I am the servant and Messenger of Allah (here). O group of Ansar! I am the servant and Messenger of Allah (here)." After that, Allah granted victory to the Muslims and defeat to the disbelievers. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) announced that day that whoever kills a disbeliever, all his belongings will go to the one who killed him. Accordingly, Hazrat Abu Talha (may Allah be pleased with him) killed twenty disbelievers that day and took their belongings. Similarly, Hazrat Abu Qatadah (may Allah be pleased with him) submitted in the presence of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), "O Messenger of Allah! I struck a man on the rope of his shoulder; he was wearing armor. I managed to overpower him with great difficulty and saved my life. Please find out who has taken his belongings?" A man stood up and said, "I have taken those belongings, O Messenger of Allah! Please make him pleased with me on my behalf and give those belongings to me." The blessed habit of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was that if someone asked for something, he would give it or remain silent. On this occasion, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) remained silent, but Hazrat Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) said, "By Allah! It cannot happen that Allah gives the spoils of war to one of His lions and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) gives them to you." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) smiled and said, "Umar is telling the truth." In the Battle of Hunayn itself, Hazrat Umm Sulaym (may Allah be pleased with her) had a dagger with her. Hazrat Abu Talha (may Allah be pleased with him) asked her, "What is this with you?" She said, "I have kept this with me so that if any polytheist comes near me, I will rip open his belly with it." Hazrat Abu Talha (may Allah be pleased with him) submitted in the court of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), "O Messenger of Allah! Did you hear what Umm Sulaym said?" Then she said, "O Messenger of Allah! Those people who ran away leaving you, have them killed." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "Umm Sulaym! Allah Himself has sufficed for us and dealt well with us."
